We're hopefully buying a house that basically needs a new everything...but we want to hold off on the kitchen as much as we can so we can really make it gorgeous and not skimp, so we want to save some cash...but to freshen it up we wanted to possibly paint the cabinets...anyone every do this, and if so do you have pics???

Re: anyone paint their kitchen cabinets?
There have been a few posts about this recently on this board if you search (Im sorry I dont remember who posted them). I'm actually in the middle of repainting mine and I'm going to post before and after pictures when I'm done. It's taking me a while because my kitchen is 15'x16' big and full of cabinets that go all the way up to the ceiling (9' ceilings too..) It def can be done. Make sure you use a good primer.

Re: anyone paint their kitchen cabinets?
I did a lot of research on Google...the people at Home Depot just kept telling me dont do it LOL
My cabinets are the ugly old 1980's melamine (laminate) cream color with wood trim.
I removed the doors from the cabinets and took the hardware off. Then I lightly sanded all surfaces of the doors and cabinets (you need to scratch up the surface a bit so the primer/paint stick better). I painted with one coat of primer (Google to see what ind is best for your cabinets - I had to buy one that was a little more money bc I had to get it to stick to laminate), then I used 2 coats of semiglss white. I thought it may be too shiney but so far its fine.
I still have about 12 cabinet doors to paint so I'll post pics when I'm done but let me see what I have here (at work) in terms of before/after pics.
ETA Here are some pics - the most recent one was taken with my cell phone and it doesn't do the cabinets justice. Like i said I still want to put moldings on them and have to add hardware. Image Attachment(s):
