anyone planning on using cloth diapers?

I come from a Green family, and my brother is buying me a starter kit. I am not opposed to it, especially around the house.

Any tips?
anyone use a service? we have one here in charlotte, I am going to call for pricing..

I am going to use them with my second. I used an aio while I was watching someone's else's kid and surprised me on the ease of it. Just like a regular disposable diaper. I would never use a cloth diaper, pin and then put a cover on. That would drive me nuts. I don't know what green is, but I would say go for an aio!!

OMG....I give you a lot of credit. I could never do it. The stuff that comes out of these little creatures...espeically if you're breastfeeding...man oh man, I just want to throw it out and get rid of it! It's all mush too...not like adult poop. Good luck!!

Re: anyone planning on using cloth diapers?

I was allergic to diapers and my mom had to use cloth with me and I am also allergic to sanitary napkins. My child may be allergic, so I have to keep in mind that I may have to use cloth diapers.

I plan on getting a few just in case for this reason. If they don't need them, I'll use them to dust with. Chat Icon

Do some research sometimes the chemicals used to clean cloth diapers is just as bad for the environment as disposable diapers areChat Icon

Re: anyone planning on using cloth diapers?

My mom used them with my sister which was 17 years ago now, but the company's name here on Long Island was General Diaper Service. The cool thing was that the guy who did the pickups and deliveries was the same 17 years ago as 27 years ago when I was born. He was Tony the Diaper Man and we loved the guy! I changed a lot of my sister's diapers since I was 10 when she was born and it really wasn't bad --- and they gave a good diaper pail to keep the odors contained.

Re: anyone planning on using cloth diapers?

I looked into it, but there weren't any diaper services on LI. Washing them myself was an option, but not one I was that interested in...

My SIL uses cloth and washes them herself, but I'm concerned about the water getting hot enough, and I really don't want to be washing them.

I looked into it but decided that with Molly in daycare it was not going to work, even some of the time. Plus I just didn't think I could have dirty diapers hanging around for days on end like that.
