Anyone read and tried the book " positive discipline" ?

In my attempt to stop yelling so much...I bought this on a whim at Borders and it has some interesting strategies, but in reality I'm finding it hard to implement.

Its about teaching the child to take responsibility for actions vs " punishing" right away for everything which lead to ( in their opinon) guilt, bad feelings, whatnot.

I woudl like to stop the " go to your room" time out stuff for everything, but I feel like he doesn't take me serious if I use "talking" alone.

3 is a hard tough age and I have a really sensitive child who I am rying to make stronger and more self reliant, have more self confidence and it is hard.

Am I overthinking this? Did our Parents just do as they wanted and we turned out fine type of thing? Is it just media overload on us in this time and age?

Bought the book... haven't opened it yet.... maybe soon....
