Anyone referred to a hematologist?
I got a call from my OB today - and when she actually makes the call, I know it can't be good. Turns out that my platelet count is low again (but still over 100,000, but barely) and they need to me to see a hematologist to see if I need steroids or a transfusion or whatnot. I'm a little upset/scared/etc. about this whole thing. I'll find out more at my 37 week app't. tomorrow, but any similar experiences would be greatly appreciated. I seek comfort in numbers.

what does that mean? is it because of the anemia?
Don't steroids shrink your boobies?

Nope, I'm not anemic. I just have low platelets. Damn platelets.
I would think steroids would make them even bigger! Thankfully, they make nursing bras that go up to L-cups.

Re: Anyone referred to a hematologist?
She's afraid you'll bleed too much during labor, right?
I haven't had that problem, but I DID have to receive lots of steroid shots in my skin to quell an autoimmune problem I had in my 20's.
wan't fun, but steroids sure can fix things when nothing else can...
Think of it this way.... it's much better you found out about this and are going to be treated before you enter labor...
good luck

I think it's more of the problem that I won't clot properly. They said it's more of an issue for the anethesiologist (sp?) - they usually won't give epidurals if platelets are under 100,000.
That's re-assuring to know that steriods worked for you. Hearing things like this make me feel better. THanks!
