ANyone send a Save the date for their childs 1st birthday??
DD birthday is february 16th and I want to have her party Saturday february 18th. I am getting nervous someone might choose that date because its a holiday weekend. One of the president bdays..Anyway my Aunt had her baby 1 week before DD and my friend had her baby 1 week after DD.. It is also my SIL bday week she is turning 30!! So I was wondering if its weird to send out a Save the Date?? If its tacky please tell me the truth...LOL.. We are doing the Alice in wonderland theme and I was going to send out the save the dates with the White Rabbit with a saying..Dont' be Late and Save the Date for Ava's Turning One! Or something along those lines.. Thanks in Adavnce!! I feel like a NUT!!

I don't think it's "tacky" but I've never used them for anything, including my wedding which was the weekend after Thanksgiving. I've just always felt that once the invite goes out, the guest decides whether they can and will attend, kwim? Particularly in the case of a holiday weekend, when people work so so hard all year and may be planning a vacation or just to relax, I hate the subtle admonishment to "save the date!". It's almost a request that they NOT make other plans to conflict with my event, kwim? Strictly a personal opinion though; I have received many an STD (oh boy that just does NOT sound right ) and don't think badly of the senders at all!!

I don't think it's "tacky" but I've never seen it done. If I were you with all those things going on I would probably pick a different weekend if possible.
DS' bday is feb 24th and we picked Sun Feb 27th. I'm a liiiiitle nervous people will be away for the holiday week/ midwinter recess but dh thought anyone who is gone will probably be back already b/c most people want the kids to be home a day or two before going back to school Monday.
I thought about the other weekends but I felt the weekend before that would be 10x worse for vacations and the weekend after there is another event.

Re: ANyone send a Save the date for their childs 1st birthday??
Hmmm... what about just sending out the invites a little earlier. Mention to most of your closest fam and friends about the date hoping they'll be there and send out the invite the mid to end of December. Just a thought.
I only think of weddings with a "save the date" card b/c a lot more goes into a wedding then a Bday party. JMO. Then again, I did go nuts for DS. LOL! His was Memorial Day weekend and we just decided to send out the invite earlier so pple know.

Don't think I would send a save the date...but I would definately give close friends and family a heads up as far as when the party will be so that they can hopefully plan on being there.

Just check the date with the three possible conflicts to be sure it's not the same as whatever they're planning. I wouldn't do a STD - I would be a bit put off if I got one for a child's birthday party, honestly.

Re: ANyone send a Save the date for their childs 1st birthday??
I emailed my friends in advance to save the date but not a formal save the date. I just put it at the end of a normal email so they would not make plans on that day.

Re: ANyone send a Save the date for their childs 1st birthday??
I think right after the holidays would be appropriate so it does not getswallowed up in holiday mail. But if you really want earlier, I think you need to wait until at least December. I send out all my kids b-day invites four to six weeks in advance. I have gotten birthday invites two and three weeks in advance.
If you are really worried about conflicts maybe you should pick another date. Will some people be away for the school break?
