anyone stop breast feeding cold turkey?
so b/c of my breast infection, i have to stop breastfeeding cold turkey since i cant breastfeed for 10 days so i cant wean him. my doctor recc a tight sports bra and putting ice on my breasts, so its been 1 day and i am horribly engorged which i knew would happen, just wondering what some of ur experiences were and how long before the engorgement goes down/my milk stops coming in? i only breastfeed for around 2 weeks, so i am assuming it wont be as long as just say i was breastfeeding a couple months. i am a little scared of getting another infection stopping so suddenly but i am on the antibiotic already so i figured this is prob the best time to stop. any tips/advice is appreciated Thanks! also the doctor recc not pumping at all b/c he said even a little will keep my milk supply going

Re: anyone stop breast feeding cold turkey?
I stopped cold turkey. I was not producing enough for DS.
I just wore a bra that was a little too small, to hold in "my girls". I didn't use ice or anything else. I wore the bra morning, noon and night.
I asked my Dr for meds to stop the production, he said to wait 2 wks. It stopped in that time!
ETA: Make sure int he shower you do not massage breasts while washing. And no not let the warm water run down them. For two weeks I would point shower head at wall and wash w/ my back to it

Re: anyone stop breast feeding cold turkey?
If you want to stop BFing do what the doctor said. DC should not have too much trouble since it's early.
But if you think you have to stop BFing b/c of the infection or treatment, you don't. Just pump and dump and things will be good after you're done. It might even help clear the infection...
