If you walk to my corner 6 houses away and cross the street you are now in a different school district!
The one I live in now...not one I want to send my kids...and the one across the street is ABSOLUTELY where I want to send my kids...
Anyone know how I go about asking to re-zone the schools district to include me in the better school district?!!?
Is this even possible?!?!
We were going to try to move to that SD but people keep asking me if I tried...I have not..but wondering if I should!
I love my house and the only problem is the schools!
Thanks!

Yeah, I don't think you'll have too much luck with that. My house is in a similar location, but we paid $150,000 more for the good district--there would be a lot of people up in arms if they rezoned to make the houses that sold for much less go to the better school.
But I think you can pay tuition and go to a different school? A few people did that to go to DH's district instead of the neighboring one.

if you are on LI, im going to say its not possible.
but I would start by maybe contacting the district office (of the district you want to be in) and ask for their policies.

I have to agree. I think that is why they make a big deal when buying or renting a home with what school district it is in.

it's almost impossible to do on Long Island.
I've seen several people over the course of the last 20 years try to do it, the courts have never sided with them.

I don't think so!
A lot of times 6 street over... the houses could be $100K more because they are in that SD.
That would be too easy to move into a house in a SD then ask your house to be rezoned to the better SD. Then it could not just be your house either. They would have to to add all the other houses too.
