Anyone take Methergine to help pass things along?
I was given Methergine and told to take it every 6 hours for 3 days. So far, I feel nothing at all and I took 2 pills. Dr.B says it could take a couple of days to work! I just want to have this behind me already and I just want it to happen and be over!!
Anyone have experience taking this and able to give me a time frame of how long it took to work? I'm also wondering what the general experience was like.. just out of curiosity.. I can take it ..

I took a pill, I can't remember the name right now (I will do a search after I respond)
I know some people passed things right away, that didn't happen for me. It actually stopped my bleeding and gave me horrible gas pains.
Since you are bleeding on your own already hopefully you will pass it without a D&C. I can't say enough how sorry I am that you are going through this. I'm not sure where you live, but seriously, if you need anything at all please let us know.
ETA: I just did a search and I took Cytotec to help things along.

Thanks!! That's actually what it did for me where it made me stop bleeding!! I don't get it... 24hrs ago I bled like some horror movie set and was scared out of my mind.. now I actually WANT it to happen ... I'm on pills to help... and nothing!
Did you eventually respond to the medication?

Yep, I know the feeling. I finally got the guts to take it and nothing happened. The medicine never did anything for me - I didn't stop bleeding again until after I finished the meds so it really had the reverse effect on me.
I actually didn't pass the sac until 6 weeks later (all of my sonos were clean so the drs. couldn't understand it)
Did the bleeding pick up at all over night?

Re: Anyone take Methergine to help pass things along?
First, I want to tell you how sorry I am for your loss.
I miscarried naturally at 9.5 weeks a couple of years ago. I had been scheduled for a D&C but started bleeding a couple of days before. My doctor prescribed cytotec which I took as a suppository shortly before bedtime. Before actually using it, I made the mistake of googling and wow...I was prepared for the worst. I actually lined my bed with towels! Well, it was almost as if nothing happened.
The worst of the cramping and bleeding happened before even taking the pills. That was a Saturday night; on Monday I saw my OB who did some kind of a "procedure" to really end the situation. I took the cytotec orally that day. As Diana, I don't really believe I passed the sac until at least a week or two after that even...despite the sono being clear.
In the end, I did avoid the D&C and I hope the same for you...
Hang in there...

I took cytotec and it did nothing for me. I think I remember my bleding slowing down a bit after taking it but I can't be 100% sure.

Thank you so much ladies... Still nothing from 2 full days on the pills. My dr says if nothing by Tuesday, I'll use suppositories. I'm just REALLY hoping to avoid a d&c!!

Why are they wainting until then? I didn't take those pills, I did the Cytotec and 4 hrs later it all started. It's not bad enough going through all of this, now you ahev to deal with this

Ugh seriously.. They said I could try walking around to get things moving along because gravity could help. I always imagined being 39.5wks pregnant and totally uncomfortable, walking around the mall with dh to try and get labor started... It's pretty sad that instead I'm walking around trying to pass what they called at my appt "products of conception" Seriously!!

Re: Anyone take Methergine to help pass things along?
They gave me methergine for after my d&c and told me to take it if I had very heavy bleeding - that it would make cramping worse but the bleeding less.
I never took it - it never got that bad - but it sounds strange to me that they expect it to make things move faster for you.
Again, I am in disbelief that this happened and you are in my prayers. You are such a strong woman.

Thanks, yea I took it after my d&e and d&c... From everything I've read online, it helps to control bleeding.. so just like you said, I'm also confused about why this was given to me. I assume my dr knows what he's doing... but for what it's worth, I just finished the dose (every 6hrs for 3 days) and still waiting for something to happen!!
I was clotting, etc.. so much before I used those pills.. I feel like had I not used it, I would have had more "luck" (if you want to call it that) in passing it all and having this behind me! I feel like these pills kept my body from doing what it was trying to do naturally anyway. Ugh. I just realllllly want this to be over already!!

aww thank you!!
The latest update from today is we will be tracking my beta every week and getting a sono every other week. Dr.Kofinas thinks I should be able to avoid a D&C. Ummm.. he also told me two days before my loss that we would probably be having that baby....
He can't be wrong about two things in a row, right?
