Anyone take their 1h glucose test at Quest? Did you fast?
I think we don't need an appointment and we just go to the lab.
How long did you have to wait?
I'm thinking of going tomorrow morning and getting it over with.
I'm assuming I will just go as soon as I wake up without having eaten anything in the morning.

My nurse said not to fast for the 1 hr just for the 3 hr. And if you fast, you have a better chance of failing. Not sure why though.

You should NOT fast. It will throw off the test. I was not allowed to eat after midnight the night before. My test was at 9:30 in the AM.

I was told no food after midnight for both the 1hr and 3hr.
Both my tests were scheduled for first thing in the morning.

ditto that... I did my 3 hour at Quest and per their website, they required an appointment. I don't know about the 1 hour though, but I would double check before you just go.

When you fast your body starts to breakdwon glucose stores and there fore have a glucose surge leading to a higher reading...that is why its better to eat and maintain your blood sugar an dkeep it from spiking/dipping.

I just called my doctor's office and they told me no food after midnight.
Is it considered fasting if you don't eat from midnight? I probably wouldn't have eaten for 10 hours.

Both my tests were scheduled for first thing in the morning. Same here. And I was advised to schedule any GT with Quest to make sure they have enough of the drink.
Good luck.

I called the Quest closest to my house and they told me to come in tomorrow morning. They didn't give me an appointment for me though.

Re: Anyone take their 1h glucose test at Quest? Did you fast?
My doctor said I didn't have to fast, but someone on here recommended calling Quest to see what their policy was on fasting. I called and was told I could have water, but couldn't eat anything after midnight. Quest actually turned a woman away that morning b/c she had breakfast before the test.

Re: Anyone take their 1h glucose test at Quest? Did you fast?
I ate a whole bunch of naan with olive oil before I went for my 1 hr. and it came back completely fine. My dr. told me the test was designed to take at any time of the day so eating should not impact it at all.

It is considered a fast if you don't eat anythign after midnight but I would go by the lab/your MDs reccomendations. The fact that no one MD or lab will say the same thing about fasting/not fasting is a a GREAT example of why they really need to re-evaluate the current standards for GD testing.....
I was in the healthcare industry. I no longer practice but went to school for 9 years in healthcare.......

I have to agree with this. I fasted for my one hour and I failed.

Yes if you aren't eating for 8-10 hours before a test that is considered fasting - so when they say no food after midnight that is fasting. They have you do the same thing for certain routine bloodwork when you have a physical. Usually they tell you to fast when you take it 1st thing in the morning it seems - but not to fast when you take it in the afternoon.
