anyone watch Private Practice? very disturbing!
Tonight there was an episode that a woman got pregnant in order to save her dying son. They said that the blood from the umbilical cord was what they needed. Well at 26 weeks her son turned for the worse and wanted the doctors to deliver the baby. The doctors of course said no. Well she went home and BROKE HER OWN WATER. The son and the baby survived. But this is what got me her last sentence was YOU DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO TO SAVE YOUR FAMILY...
I just cant get this episode out of my head. I am soo emotional right now... I just dont even know what to think about this... UGH TV
dont really know why I am posting this but had to get some of my tears out. TIA

I watch the show.. love it too.
That whole situation was very distrubing. But it makes you look at the different sides of things too IMO.
It was obviuosly the Dr.s fault for it getting to that point but still.. the sh*t it puts in your head is crazy

my dh and i watched too... i would have a hard time deciding about that decision honestly.. both of us are NICU nurses and agreed that we might have done the same. 27 weekers with good care have a GREAT chance nowadays!
Edited to say... i didn't know she only got pregnant to save her son... no i wouldn't do that... not sure if i would do it at all just saying i dont' know how i would react in that situation.

Re: anyone watch Private Practice? very disturbing!
I saw that episode also and was going to start a post.
I actually think they took the story line from the book, My Sister's Keeper which was excellent. Same idea but the kids are older.
Anyway, I was very disturbed with the whole thing too. I don't think I could even go the length of genticly designing a baby then having it implated. The mom on the show didn't seem to care to much about her unborn baby and it wasn't until she realilzed that her newborn could possibly not make it that she decided to love her. I completely understand wanting to help your sick child and I can't even begin to imagine what people in real life go through on a day to day basis. I just know that I don't think I could go this route.

Didn't see it but I'll have to see if it's online.
Wow - emotional to say the least and one of those things that really pulls at your heart.
I think of my little boy and know that I would lay down and die for him so I can't say truthfully that I would not have another child to save my son...I would consider it but I would love that child from the start...he/she would be wanted, loved and cherished on a whole different level in my heart.
