Anyone watch the 20/20 interview with the Bates family?
These people have the same beliefs as the Duggars, and they have 18 children. They've been on the Duggar show a few times.
Here's what I don't understand. The wife, Kelly, had a few miscarriages before conceiving her 17th child. She wouldn't use any form of birth control, so her doctor put her on progesterone injections to make any pregnancy more likely to be viable. She got pregnant and almost died in childbirth. Then she got pregnant and everyone is ok. And then she had a few more miscarriages.
I DO NOT understand this. Putting aside the argument that you should be alive to care for the kids you already have, if you don't want to take medicine (i.e. birth control) to prevent a pregnancy, saying that you're "trusting God," isn't it counterintuitive to take progesterone to be more likely to GET pregnant?
I don't get it....
Well, I DO get it. They're lunatics The little boys were going on about raising up an "army of God." Ok there, Rambo....

she said that the 2 day old embryo deserves the same medical attention as her children outside the womb. So if progesterone saves the embryo...that's what she wants to do.

I guess I misunderstood. I thought she was continuously taking progesterone to get pregnant, not to maintain a pregnancy.
The whole special was super creepy to me.

Didn't watch it but I love the Bates family. Yes I think 18 kids is a bit much, but the seem to be taking care of the kids just fine and they all seem to be healthy and happy.

I think you are right. She takes it continuously just in case there is an embryo that needs it.
Definitely not a lifestyle I want. Pregnant every year for 22 years!!?!!? I did appreciate that they don't allow courtship until after teen years. Some of the situations seem like they would be prone to teen brides.
