I know all positions pay different. Right now they're only offering one for Mail Clerk in Suffolk and that's only $24,000 which is nothing.

Re: Anyone work for the post office?

My friend's sister has worked for the post office for seven years.
The pay is okay- she gets decent raises, even though she started off on the low side.

The benefits are great, though. Something to consider. Many corporations are increasing their premiums and cutting benefits- so that should be factored in when it comes to pay.

Re: Anyone work for the post office?

I worked for the USPS for 4 years then quit when i had my kids. They are great to work for, but trust me, its very hard work. DH has been with them for 16 years. The benefits ARE really good They are giving the tests, but are in a hiring freeze. The base pay isn't that great, but with the overtime and holidays worked, you can make a great salary. We get full medical and optical for 100 per month out of pocket, the USPS covers the rest. The kdis have no co-pays on their office visits to any dr they see. Specialists or peds. The retirement is awesome. The vacations are absurd! My DH gets 5 weeks and a day, but never uses that many, so they carry over. The sick time also It's a pretty good job, just hard to get in right now, as they are talking big layoffs. They are requried by law to give the test every 3 years but no hiring anywhere.
