Anyone's 8 month old give up 2nd nap?

For the past many months, DD has taken 2 naps/day, of about an hour each.

In the last few days, my sweet little nearly 8 month old has decided that 1 nap is enough for her. She goes down like a champ for her morning nap and sleeps for 1 1/2-2 hours (longer than usual) but is refusing her 2nd nap! She will go down in her crib and play for a while (~20 min) but then eventually WAILS. She has stayed up till her bedtime (6ish) w/o too much of a fuss but I do think she's tired.

I guess I'll keep on trying as I think 8 months is WAY too early to be w/o a 2nd nap ... but I can't MAKE her sleep! Anyone been through something similar??

Every so often DD will do that. I'll admit- the afternoon nap is often hit or miss for her. She usually takes one, but there are days she'll do exactly what your little one is doing too.

I have been finding that now that he's mobile, the naps are a lot harding. He'll be about to go to sleep and then realize "Ooo, I can crawl! I can stand!!" and off he goes, crawling and then pulling up to standing. I have to get him very tired sometimes to get him down. My DH and I will literally "run" him back and forth between us until he's very tired and then he'll sleep. Our bedtime is later- betwen 8 and 9pm. I've tried to get him down earlier, but he just won't do it.

so glad you posted this, for some reason DS (who is the same age as your DD as you knowChat Icon ) is doing something similar this week! He goes for the AM nap no problem, but has been pushing /delaying his afternoon nap the past couple of days. He is so tired though and needs that nap, plus he is normally on a great schedule for me when i work (i pick him up at the sitter b/t 2-3 and thats when he is up from his PM nap normally), now i go back to work tomorrow (i was off all week) and dont know whats going to happen b/c this week he was napping at home after 2PM most days. i guess i will have to wait and see what happens this week
