Re: Anyones DC every have the RSV virus?
A friend's baby was diagnosed with RSV and was in the hospital for several days. After going back and forth to the ped for her being sick, they finally did the RSV test. I am not 100% sure how they treated it. I would assume antibiotics to help fight off the infection, but they also hydrate them alot.

Re: Anyones DC ever have the RSV virus?
Alex has had it twice, but thankfully it didn't progress TOO far.
She was sluggish, and had this awful cough, and her breathing was very raspy. You could hear it was labored if you put your ear to her back.
We didn't have to go to the hospital, but instead, we had to administer a nebulizer to her 3 times a day for upwards of a week.

Re: Anyones DC ever have the RSV virus?
Where they hospitalized? Yes
What were their symptoms? Lethargic, not drinking, crying, visibily very sick
How long did it last? 2-3 weeks (?)
AND.. how was it treated? Nebulizer treatments around the clock in the hospital. Oxygen monitor (but he didnt' actually NEED oxygen), oral steroids to open airway
Once they get started w/breathing treatments it helps them expel the mucous. At that point the virus just has to run it's course. They might give tylenol for fever but antib's wont help, it's a virus.

Re: Anyones DC ever have the RSV virus?
Yes, Jackson had it at 8 months old. He had a bad cough which turned into a wheeze. It's the wheezing that can mean that they're getting a restricted amount of oxygen to their lungs. So at that point I took him to the doctor.
They put him on a nebulizer for 10 minutes to see if his oxygen levels would go up, but they didn't go up enough so he had to be hospitalized over the weekend He also had pneumonia!!!
If I remember right, there was no treatment for the RSV other than oxygen and also flushing out his nasal passages with saline to help him breathe.

DS's pediatrician said he had this, and had him on the nebulizer, personally i dont think he had RSV, I think he just had a cold and the docter was trying to prevent it from becoming RSV. they also told me his cough will last weeks, he was sick for a total of 9 days... and the cough stopped too...so im starting to think his pediatrician is crazy... but i've been thinking that for a while now

Re: Anyones DC ever have the RSV virus?
Yes, my DS had it when he was 3 months old. He was wheezing and not drinking and very lethargic. We tried neb treatments at home per the dr but when he wasn't getting any better, the ped felt he needed to be hospitalized. he was in the PICU for five nights with oxygen, round the clock neb treatments and lots of rest. Its viral so it just has to run its course.
