anyone's dc NOT wear a traditional christening gown for their baptism?

dh is not a big fan of our ds wearing one of those traditional christening gowns...

we got him a little white eton suit (he will be almost 6 mos. when he is christened).

are people (esp. close relatives) gonna wonder why he isn't in a gown? i know i shouldn't care, but my mother and mil are more traditional people---

thanks.

Neither of my sons wore gowns. I personally do not like that look on a boy. They both wore suits.
My older boy had pants, shirt, vest, bow tie.
My younger one had almost the same, only in "knickers" because we had his in the summer.

Re: anyone's dc NOT wear a traditional christening gown for their baptism?

As traditional and old fashioned as my mom is not even she expected a gown for DS's christening. If we had one she would have loved it but she never said anything and in fact when we showed her the christening suit she said she really loved it! DS's christening was back in october. Wow how time flies...

But you do what you are comfortable with. This is your child...

Damien didn't wear a gown. I actually can't remember one baby boy that did when friends and family have gotten their sons baptized.

My son didn't wear a gown either. He wore a short-sleeve Irish linen one-peice - hard to describe, but I have posted pictures before.

All the boys in our family wore the same gown. If it wasn't an hierloom and a tradition, we probably would not have put him in a gown.

DS wore a romper but the legs were more like knickners with a little vest over it and he was just shy of 5 months and it was this past Sept. He looked adorable. I want to save a gown if I have girl next.

Jared didn't wear a gown or a suit. I didn't want anything too shiny for him so I got a cotton two piece outfit.

Gracie did not. She wore a eyelet white and lavender sun dress with a hat that matched.

We also had her dedication in July when it was 95 degrees out.

Re: anyone's dc NOT wear a traditional christening gown for their baptism?

DD had a really pretty pink dress on for her baptism a few months ago. They grow out of their clothes so fast, and we had this dress already, it seemed silly and a waste to buy another dress for one day, when the dress we already had was just as nice, and wouldn't be able to be worn for much longer.
