anyone's ped ever tell them to decreese formula ounces before making switch to milk?
My ped said 3 6oz bottles by 11m, and then switch to milk by 12m.
I was a little stunned DS now takes 4 8oz bottles and a ton of solids, almost 100% on table food eating everything from spinach to meatballs to french toast
I give bottle and then food 1 hour later, any suggestion for how to cut out the oz? I hate the look on his face when I offered him only 7oz, he's takes only 7, but I swear its like he knew there is usually more in the bottle.

Our ped didn't tell us to do this, but I was going to start on my own. Our bottle schedule is a little different though, so he doesn't really notice that he's missing any. He has a bottle when he first wakes, usually 6 oz which he really can't be bothered with. Then he gets a full bottle for a late afternoon snack, around 4, then a 7oz before bedtime. His meals are totally seperate. I'll probably replace his snack bottle with a solid food snack after his 10 month visit (next week) and start decreasing his nightime bottle to get him used to not having the bottle before bedtime. After he's a year, I'll lose the morning bottle and replace with a milk sippy.

What about offering solids first and then the bottle?

I'm nervous to try it, but I think I will.

I did this for lunch, and it was a disaster. He got cranky and would eat his french toast which he usually is grabing from me. Gave in and gave him something he loves his banana pumpkin baby food, straight out of the pouch.
halfway he tore off his bib and signaled to me "all done" so I let him out, he played, 15 minutes he's signaling "eat" I offer bottle he was so happy, but took only an ounce. 45 minutes later, he says hungry again. I give bottle he drank 8oz.
I think he ended up drinking more formula than he would have.
I hate messing with what already works. But I feel like we need to cut out some formula. He's eating a ton of solids.

Well, I mostly nurse but he does get one bottle of formula at bedtime. My ped said to do 2 oz of milk and 6 oz formula for a few days then gradually add more milk and decrease the formula.

I waited till DS turned 12months and slowly started to mix formula with the milk over a week to ween him off the formula. Once he was fully on milk, I decreased his bottles to three 6oz bottles a day. One when he woke up, one in the afternoon and one at night before bed. My Ped said that too much milk a day can be bad for them. DS is 21 months and loves milk. I try to keep give him no more then 16oz a day.
