Anything I can do about this? (daycare related)

I live in a very residential area.

My next door neighbor opened a private daycare in her home when she had her second DD.

I have already checked suffolk county daycare website thing a ma jig and she is totally legal. One prior offense of not having a pool gated which has been satisfactorily resolved.

I guess some of the kids that attend this daycare are actually in school.

There are 4 buses that come in the morning. And I think around 4 in the afternoon.

All at varying times between 8ish and 9:30 and then between 2:30ish and 4ish. Oh, and one around noon.

Almost ALL of them have to HONK sometimes multiple times. I suppose its to get her attention so she knows to either meet the kid at the bus, open the door, whatever.

Now that the weather has been so nice our windows are open. And I feel like sometimes the honking wakes up Ryan premmaturely from a nap. Most of you know how terrible of a napper Ryan is.

So, tell me, anything I can do?

Why don't you go talk to her and ask her to wait for the bus so they don't honk?

I would speak to either her or the bus driver, I am sure they will understand.

I would put the onus on her to make sure she has someone waiting for the bus. It is her responsibility to make sure the business she is running out of her home isn't disruptive to the neighbors.

Bus drivers shouldn't be honking repeatedly. However I am sure there is more than one bus driver and they probably do change. Call the transportation office at your school and get their fax number. Then fax them a request so the office has it on file for the different bus drivers and drivers that sub.

How did she get a permit to run a daycare without her neighbors approving it? That surprises me.

You absolutely do not need your neighbor's permission to run a family daycare out of your home.

I think you posted about this once before OP. Have you said anything to the neigbor since then? I would mention it to her before getting the transportation office invovled, because honestly, I don't think they are going to care.

I would go talk to her, it is always better to try to speak to the person first before getting an outsider involved.

I would talk to your neighbor and just explain the situation. Chances are she won't want any trouble. I would give her a couple of weeks to resolve the issue.

Because I have children it is so important to me that I have good relationships with my neighbors, because there is always a chance that one of my children might need them someday when I am not home.

However, I would not let them get away with a situation like that, and if they can't resolve it within a couple of weeks I would make a complaint.
