Apple picking- Upstate or LI? And Which Harbes?
We’ve been to Warwick but are open to other locations including LI
And as for Harbes, I see that there are 3. Is river head just as good as the north fork location s?

I would not do anything on LI at this time of year. That area is a nightmare and the unrelenting traffic takes all the fun out of literally everything. I avoid the east end like the plague until after Thanksgiving. Go upstate. At least you aren't trapped with one way in and one way out.

100% agree!!!
We use to love heading out east but in recent years it became a horrible, over populated, traffic nightmare. It's not enjoyable at all anymore. I'd definitely head upstate.

Traffic isn’t great going apple picking north of LI either but there are more options.

Westchester isn’t “upstate” but you would have to drive through it to get from LI to any orchards and the traffic here is worst than anything I ever experienced on LI.

And that is why we pick our apples in the supermarket. I just don't have it in me to sit in any kind of tourist traffic. It's not fun to me.

LOL - yes, and the apples really aren't "upstate" either in Orange County
Getting to Warwick on a fall weekend is fairly miserable.

I know a few people who have gone to Lyman Orchards and rave about it, though I’ve never been myself.

Re: Apple picking- Upstate or LI? And Which Harbes?
If all you want to do is pick apples, we went to Milk Pail in Water Mill last weekend, and it was perfect. Parked right up front, had several varieties of apples. We were in and out within 30 minutes. It was perfect. We got there when they opened at 10am, really didn't hit any traffic. We passed Seven Ponds Orchard on the way and they didn't look busy either. Both had some of the side amenities, but nothing near the craziness you experience at Harbes.

Thank you for this suggestion too

Apple picking- Upstate or LI? And Which Harbes?
We just went to Lewin's Farms out in Calverton on Sound Avenue. They had a huge selection of apples to choose from. The farm opens at 9am on the weekend. We were there at 10 am and basically had the run of the orchard. By the time we were leaving (after going to the other part of the farm to pick some tomatoes and peppers) the road coming in was getting crowded. I'd suggest going early if you're going out east.

We like harbes, the Jamesport location, past the apple orchard 1. We leave super early in the morning to beat the traffic. I agree that it gets crazy out there, but my kids like it. Hank's is also fun on the South Fork

Apple picking- Upstate or LI? And Which Harbes?
Went last weekend to Windy Acres farm in Calverton. Had a wonderful time and they have more than just Apples to pick. They also have veggies, sunflowers and pumpkins. They also have lots for the kids. Did not have traffic issues (we got there at 12) and highly recommend. I find Harbes to be way too expensive. This place was just $10 per person for a bag and if you have 3 or more people you can get a box for $30 and can mix veggies and fruit.
