Appraisals
Looking to get an approximate on how much a house is that is owned within our family and will be purchased by another family member. Any ideas on where we could go just to get a $ figure as a jumping off point for discussions within the family for price point?
TIA!

I would go to redfin.com and enter the address. Click the link to your property and scroll to the bottom -- it will list market comps in the area that have sold.

Re: Appraisals
Why not ask a RE agent? Many will do it free of charge, even if they know they will not get paid. IMO, that's really the only accurate way you'll get an idea of the appraised value without paying for it. You could try to pull your own comps online but there are so many variables that unless you're trained, it will be really hard to get an accurate $ value.

Re: Appraisals
Yes, a real estate agent will do a complimentary market analysis. It's common... I frequently do home valuations for people who don't have intention of putting their house on the market (e.g. for probate court, divorce, etc.)
An appraisal will cost a few hundred dollars.
There is no website that will be able to provide the right data. It's not just about finding comps, i.e. other sales in the area. It's about selecting the right comps, and being able to interpret them. Real estate agents have access to far greater and more accurate info than any consumer real estate site can provide.

Re: Appraisals
Was just going to say what Christine said. My cousin wanted to know if it was worth it to try selling her house right now, so she asked an RE to come over and do a market analysis. She didn't pay anything, and she was advised on how much to list the house for.
