what else is near there? Hotels?

We usually stay in Philly:
Franklin museum was great and well done
Rodin museum is small and bright and interesting.
Been to the zoo and the aquarium: both are a nice visit
Not too far away, they have the Philadelphia gardens (which are gorgeous if things are green by then)
There is a food truck/beer garden/ waterfront area that’s called Penn’s landing that is really fun and beautiful.

We’ve gone during long weekends and have thought it’s an easy destination to spend a week.

If your kids like trains there is Northlandz on 202 in NJ. Depending upon how you drive from LI it may be on your way. It is a 1 hour stop and stretch your legs. There is also a good fudge shop on 202. Further down the road in Flemington NJ is outlet malls and a really cute high tea place.
