Aquaphor as treatment for baby acne/skin irritations

My ped told me to put Aquaphor on Sasha's face for her acne/skin irritation. Of course I forgot to ask how often I should be doing this and now it's the weekend and it'snot really an emergency to call them...

Anyone else advised to do this and know how often to apply? She has marks and bumps all over her face, but I don't want to clog her little pores by continuosly applying.

It prevents skin from drying out... it's harmless... as often as necessary... just like vaseline Chat Icon

I guess I am also concerned because she is constantly rubbing her face, and has started putting her hands in her mouth... so, I don't want her to get any in her mouth and eyes.

I mean, she's got this irritation ALLLLL over her face and neck. Chat Icon

Re: Aquaphor as treatment for baby acne/skin irritations

DD's baby acne got really bad this week, she was all red and very dry. I applied Aquaphor on her cheeks 2-3x a day, and it's now much better!

Same for Jake, although I feel like his is not so much the acne anymore, but just dry, rought (almost chapped Chat Icon ) cheeks. My ped recommended Eucerin. I apply 3x a day, and when I'm faithful about it, he looks so good...not that its really hard for him to look good, but you get my drift...Chat Icon

Re: Aquaphor as treatment for baby acne/skin irritations

I just brought DS to the Ped today because of skin irritation. He has it really bad all over his face, neck and top of his chest. The Ped said it was baby acne and gave me a prescription for an ointment. She also told me to wash his face twice a day with Cetaphil cleanser. SHe also told me I could use Cetaphil lotion after the ointment is finished.
I was using Aquaphor, but it wasn't doing much.

Re: Aquaphor as treatment for baby acne/skin irritations

you might also want to try the aquaphor gentle wash. that's what our ped suggested to us when DD had some baby acne. did the trick.

Re: Aquaphor as treatment for baby acne/skin irritations

Not only did i use the aquaphor ointment but also the soap as well.. ds had bad skin as a newborn... not only did he have acne but he also had heat rash....now he as eczema and i essentially put the aquaphor on in the morning and after a bath... i also put it on if he is excessively drooling or we are going out for a walk.... he has a hemangioma on his tushy and so i use it as a diaper cream essentially to protect that spot...

do you have a humidifier in the baby's room? That may help... Or you may be bathing too frequently or with too much soap? It sounds like super-dry skin.

We do... and we only wash her face with water and a cotton ball, 1 or 2 times a day... Part of the problem is that she rubs her face on our shoulders-- she loves to burrow her head in. We'll see what happens over the next few days...I just want it to get better Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Aquaphor as treatment for baby acne/skin irritations

I found Aquaphor makes the skin too greasy and doesn't seem to absorb in.

I bought nonscented vaseline skin lotion for dry skin and put that on DDs cheeks. It absorbs right in and gets rid of the dryness very quickly, much better than Aquaphor did.
