Are any breastfeeding moms also on meds for chronic conditions?
Even though I have a lot of time left, I've been doing a lot of thinking about breast feeding v. formula feeding, and my main concern at the moment has to do with medication I take. I am asthmatic and use two inhalers (one a steroid) twice daily. The reading I have done online does not say conclusively that it's safe to breastfeed on these meds, and unfortunately, not taking them is not an option. Even though very little would get into the milk (because it's inhaled, not oral) I don't know what to do.
Is anyone in a similar situation who might have some advice? Thanks.

I don't have asthma but I have allergies and I had to give up my inhaled medicine, flonase, but can take my claritin. Just keep in touch with your Drs and do some research.

There is a book by Dr. Hale that has information on medications and breastfeeding. You may be able to get the info online. Hope it works out for you.

I use an inhaler very rarely, but I brought it to my OB and he said it's fine.
Could you be off the inhaler for 3 or so days? The colostrum is the most important milk for a baby to get in the first few days.

I don't know- I've never tried. But I did look at the site that BabyInMarch posted, and I was surprised at all the meds that are approved, even oral Prednisone. So I have a feeling that if an oral steriod is ok, then an inhaled one will probably be fine too. But I will ask my regular doc and OB at my next appts.
Thanks again ladies.
