Are any of you putting halts on travel plans because of TTC?
I have a trip planned to a third world country (Costa Rica) for July and I don't know if I should cancel it. DH thinks I shouldn't travel to third world countries while we are TTC (in case we conceive) or are pregnant.
Air travel isn't what concerns him; it's the potential viruses that exist in the third world countries.
Just wondering if other women were not traveling internationally while TTC.
Would you wait to TTC after the trip?
If you did get pregnant, would you cancel the trip?

Re: Are any of you putting halts on travel plans because of TTC?
I'm not traveling outside of the U.S., but we booked our trip to CA long before I got pregnant. I'll be about 10-11 weeks when we go. We're also going to Maine in August. I'm sure I won't be able to do many of the things I did there during previous vacations (hiking, sea kayaking, etc), but I'm still going.
If you're worried, you could always speak to your doctor about your concerns.

I wouldn't cancel something that was already planned but I wouldn't plan anything new. I'm just like that! I will just be very very very careful though!
Good Luck!

Re: Are any of you putting halts on travel plans because of TTC?
I wouldn't
I just took a trip that I thought I would be 4 months pregnant on. Still TTC.
I have one other major trip this summer-- but, I couldn't possibly be far enough along for it to be an issue with traveling.
I am not planning any other major trips though for the rest of this year-- just weekends away and stuff like that.

Re: Are any of you putting halts on travel plans because of TTC?
Costa Rica is not as 3rd world as you might think. Not many if any viruses you need to be concerned with.
DH and I went to Costa Rica this time last year. I fought him and fought him on it, "just in case I was pregnant" Guess what... If I hadn't given in, I NEVER would have experienced the most phenominal vacation we had ever had. I've been trying to get pregnant for almost 2 years now and one thing I've learned is not to postpone your life for it. Unfortunately, right now I have to due to us doing IVF, but I'm glad I didn't last year, or the year before.
Go on your trip and enjoy!

DH thinks Costa Rica is mosquito capital of the world and I would be prone to malaria and other diseases/viruses.
Were there a lot of mosquitos or other bugs?

Honestly, no need to worry. If you are going in July, then that's the Green Season (aka, Rainy Season) there may be more mosquitos than normal. Just bring bug spray and you'll be fine.

Re: Are any of you putting halts on travel plans because of TTC?
I would not put anything on hold for TTC, you never know what is going to happen. Also, if I did get pregnant I wouldn't cancel a trip to costa rica. We went there for our HM and stayed in fabulous hotels. There are certain areas that are more of a malaria risk - you can look on the CDC website - most of them are on the carribean side, so if you stay on the pacific side you are fine. We used insect repellent, I don't think I got one mosquito bite while we were there.

We are going to halt TTC until I get back from Costa Rica. It's only 2 months.

Re: Are any of you putting halts on travel plans because of TTC?
I wouldn't! I went to Costa Rica and it isn't "3rd World" at all.
Are you doing a lot of traveling? My DH lived there for 8 months while in college, and he knows a LOT about the different areas.
Also, when he was living there he got a bad stomach virus and had to go to the hospital. He said that the care he received was better than the US!
I wouldn't put travel plans on hold for TTC at all.
Good luck! And enjoy CR!

The main purpose of the trip is to enjoy the hot springs, go ziplining, and waterfall repelling. It is a relatively short trip. I plan to go to the Arenal Volcano area only. We are staying at the Tabacon Resort. We'll also be spending 2 nights in San Jose since that is where we are flying in.
I decided not to put travel plans on halt. Instead I'm going to put TTC on hold.
Everyone who I know who has been to Costa Rica says it will be fine but Husband doesn't want to risk me getting some sort of stomach virus or whatever that could affect our future baby.

I loved, loved, LOVED Tabacon, the hot springs are INCREDIBLE! The arenal volcano area does not have malaria risk, and Tabacon is a very clean, beautiful, wonderful hotel. You are not in danger of any stomach viruses. Its totally your decision, but your vacation is not a concern in terms of TTCing or being in very early pregnancy. You are going to love it there. Zip lining was one of the best things I have ever done. You are going to have an amazing time. When are you going?

Re: Are any of you putting halts on travel plans because of TTC?
I'm going the first week of July, in less than 2 months.
Was the ziplining scary?
I'm a bit scared of heights but I know it's a must do.
Did you do the waterfall repelling?
I'm going to do both but am nervous about it.
