Are Christening Favors REALLY Necessary?
I mean, do people really expect them? I feel like I am planning a Wedding all over again w/ this Christening! I've been looking online at favors, and nothing strikes me, I see a lot of "dust collectors"- you know? I'd rather save the $$$ & put it in her savings!

Re: Are Christening Favors REALLY Necessary?
I know I was one who didn't do Christening favors, for some of the same reasons you expressed. Plus, we had a small, family only celebration and I don't think anyone was expecting anything.

Re: Are Christening Favors REALLY Necessary?
I know I am not there yet - but I feel the same way. So many things, just end up getting thrown away.
I think that when we have the babys christening, and we decide we are doing anything. I am going to do 2 bamboo sticks in a small votive vase. My friend owns a florist and can get them at discounted prices for me. At least it won't go to waste and get thrown out.

Re: Are Christening Favors REALLY Necessary?
I never even thought of giving christening favors. Is that really something people do today?

Re: Are Christening Favors REALLY Necessary?
I think all favors are a waste of $$$
but yet still gave them out @ Rys christening- I made choc. lollipop crosses (it saved $- but took alot of time!)
Nobody took them....I ended up giving my waitstaff and DJ a bunch to take home!!!!

I hope that nobody threw out my favors. They were picture frames with Jared's pic inside.

That's a cute idea! I really don't want to do favors, but if I do, I may have to steal that idea

Re: Are Christening Favors REALLY Necessary?
I did favors because everyone in my family does so I kinda felt I had to. I didn't want something that people would throw away or collect dust so I had magnets made with Steven's picture, his name, and date of christening. They were absolutely adorable and I researched a found a place online that was not very expensive. Now everytime I go to someone's house there's Steven's pic on their fridge!!!!!!

Re: Are Christening Favors REALLY Necessary?
They're definitely not necessary. At all. I did them for my kids Christenings but I think it was more for me b/c I like to do stuff like that, I really dont think anyone could care less LOL If you really want to do something thats not a dust collector and cheap, you can have African Violets that everyone takes home - my SIL did this and I always think of my nephew when I see the plant or candy with a blue or pink ribbon, something simple. Otherwise, I wouldnt sweat it at all and I doubt anyone will miss them.

Ohhhh...thats a great idea....did you put a pic of him in his christening outfit or just a regular outfit? I love this idea. Plus since we are only having family...its a great idea.

Re: Are Christening Favors REALLY Necessary?
We gave out favors but only because it was right after CHristmas and I was in a crafty mood It's certainly not expected.
You could also just do chocolates or something in a basket as people are leaving. Something simple and easy

Re: Are Christening Favors REALLY Necessary?
I think favors are so not necessary. We did not give favors (maybe part of that was that the christening was at 5 weeks and we moved the day before!). Most people I know did not do them, and I do feel bad throwing out the "dust collectors."
ETA: I do think the chocolate is a good idea.

Re: Are Christening Favors REALLY Necessary?
totally unnecessary, the picture frames with the pictures are a cute idea, but I've coem to the realization that if you invite 50 family members and friends about 5-10 of them will really only keep them, it s the people who you are really close with that will keep it (most likely immediate family), otherwise they get tossed. I know I have personally gotten a frame with a picture of the baby being christened and the only one that I kept was one of my niece, the other 5 I threw out

Re: Are Christening Favors REALLY Necessary?
IMO, they're definitely not necessary, although we chose to do inexpensive one. For our first we made a CD and had lollipop bouquets on each table that broke apart so everyone got some. For our second we had cookies made.

Re: Are Christening Favors REALLY Necessary?
My friend just did the lollipop chocolate crosses with personalized ribbon, it came out cute...but as someone said "time cosuming". I am stressing about the same thing. Also, the invitations. I think I might make them myself on the computer. And for the thank you's I am going to do shutterfly or costco with his picture in his outfit- Its horrible but I feel like I've written a MILLION thank you's between my shower, gifts after he was born, etc. I just want something preprinted!

Re: Are Christening Favors REALLY Necessary?
For both my kids, we had the party in the house and I made favors with a candle in a jar, put little christening and baby confetti and wrapped with tulle and a ribbon. I still have mine totally made but I am sure others probably just used the candle.
