Are DH diaper bags necessary?

I want a pretty feminine diaper bag - the Vera Bradley Baby Bag in Cambridge. Its a lime green and navy blue paisley-type print.

External Image

I noticed on the diaper bag thread that some ladies chose DH diaper bags too.

If you have a DH diaper bag, did you get use out of it? Was it a giant pain in the butt to transfer everything between bags to use DH's bag?

(I'm x-posting this to parenting for some more responses!)

Re: Are DH diaper bags necessary?

We registered for a diaper bag for DH because I too chose a Vera Bradley diaper bag. Also, DH will be home with the baby 2-3 days per week and he wanted his own bag. I was totally fine with that. We haven't put our plan into effect yet obviously, but we plan on stocking both diaper bags with the necessities. It seems that this plan will work best for our schedules.

Re: Are DH diaper bags necessary?

I bought DH a Diaper Dude bag on Father's Day before DS was born. The tags are still on it and he has yet to use it. He hasn't gone anywhere alone with DS, but if he did then he would use it. It was expensive, and looking back, I probably wouldnt have gotten it since I dont think he is going to use it a whole lot.

Re: Are DH diaper bags necessary?

I am going to buy DH a diaper bag because the one I want is really girly and I just don't think he is going to carry it and I actually think he wants one!

Re: Are DH diaper bags necessary?

I bought JT a backpack diaper bag and he used it ALL the time. The way I see it is that he's her parent, too, so he should be prepared just the same was as I'm prepared. To this day, he's packs extra clothes and snacks in it when he takes her out for the day.

Not even going to bother...my DH will not be caught with one....I do however think once the baby is here he may change his mind and may be open to a backpack type one...

Re: Are DH diaper bags necessary?

I also got DH a Diaper Dude for the Father's Day right before DD was born. He's used it a few times...if he goes somewhere alone with her (park, store, etc) he'd take it. They're very nice bags and actually easier to carry than my diaper bag.

Re: Are DH diaper bags necessary?

I was thinking of getting a backpack bag just to have - I'm sure it'll be easier for travel for BOTH of us, not just DH.

Re: Are DH diaper bags necessary?

I got a vera bradley one for me. I registered for one for DH. Someone just bought it today.

But, I'm not sure if I want to keep it.

It does hook onto the stroller and has tons of storage for gadgets and stuff. So maybe there are times that I would like it too.

We were discussing that switching back and forth might be a PIA. So we'll see.

We had Lands End diaper bags since I went for functional over design, later we used a regular leather backpack.

There was no switching stuff in a diaper bag. We had a quick trip bag & an extended day trip bag. Both were always stocked with diapers and extra outfits. Bottles (when I stopped nursing) were packed the day we were going with whichever bag we were taking.

Re: Are DH diaper bags necessary?

My DH takes care of DD during the day so I'm sure that makes a big difference in my answer. We did get him the city backpack diaper bag. It's actually all we use. I probably used my feminine bag for a couple of months but the backpack is just so much easier for some reason.

When we were using both bags, we didn't transfer items from one bag to another. We each had our own necessities in our bags.

Re: Are DH diaper bags necessary?

I don't really see the point in getting 2 diaper bags so we got one that can be used as a backpack thats black/gray so we can both use it.

Same with us. Our Lands End bags were neutral so DH never had a problem using them. He never used his diaper bag. Haven't even broken out the backback yet.

I got DH a Diaper Dude in Camo (pic in my album). I want to get a girly one for me and know he wouldn't want to carry that around.

Re: Are DH diaper bags necessary?

DH has a diaper dude. He has used it maybe 4 times in the 21 months Jack has been here.

Is it a necessity - def. not.
Is it something nice for them to have when they take the baby out - sure!

Dh uses the Enfamil diaper bag that obgyn offices give to you when you first get preggo. It's plain - black with a goldish piping.

Re: Are DH diaper bags necessary?

We did not register for a seperate diaper bag for DH. I got this pattern and DH has no problem using it.

IMO, a bag for DH to use is a waste. There are more important things to put on your registry.
