In my experience, fondant cakes are not more expensive tham whipped cream.
ETA: It would depend on the bakery I would imagine.

I have found that they are. This was at Butter Cooky. I LOVE the look of fondont though! That is what we did for DS's christening and 1st bday!

I don't think they are but honestly, they don't taste very good and for kids parties, I would stick to whipped or buttercream... JMO.

generally, they are.... many people don't like the taste of fondant, but obviously, the fondant makes the cake super-cute....
for our wedding, we had the fondant 'glued' on with a tasty mocha buttercream.... so it even tasted good

we had fondant for my DD's christening cake and it was a hit- tasted absolutely delicious- guess it depends on who makes it! It was not pricey at all. FM if you need details. an LIFer made it for me! I posted a pic for you in your other thread.

I agree. We just ordered a fondant cake for my mother at the Butter Cooky and it was $100. With a regular icing/ frosting topping, it was almost 1/2 the price.
But the fondant was soooo pretty, I just had to get that one.

In my experience if you get them from a reputable bakery, they are a lot more.

Not if you use Sugar Chic. If you saw Ryan's 1st birthday pics, you can see the cake we had- very affordable!
