Are pacifiers okay for sleep?
I didn't think they were, but I just saw some glow in the dark ones at the store. They say they reduce SIDS. Am I just being overprotective by thinking he could somehow choke on a part of the pacifier? He's 5 weeks old. TIA!!

Re: Are pacifiers okay for sleep?
They are fine. My DD has pretty much always used one. It's been a life saver to my breasts at times.
ETA: My DD sleeps with two every night.

They say that they do help in preventing SIDS. I give Jack one to sleep with and then he'll usually spit it out once he's in a deep sleep.
Go for it! He'll most likely go to sleep easier!

DD uses them and normally spits it out once she falls asleep. I don't think there's anything wrong with it..

Re: Are pacifiers okay for sleep?
Nope. they are fine for sleeping. DS really only uses his when he is really tired and when he is falling asleep. He won't choke on it, that is why they are wide on the part that sits on their face, KWIM?

Re: Are pacifiers okay for sleep?
Two of boys have used them from the begining and everything was fine. But they are saying now that pacifiers are good for night because it reduces the chances of sids. Atleast that's what I heard.

Re: Are pacifiers okay for sleep?
personally I'm not a fan of leaving DS with a pacifier. I had an incident 2 wks ago, where the pacifier fell out of his mouth , and he tried to put it back but got so frustrated he managed to shove the whole thing in his mouth! anyhow he didnt cry, i just heard this weird shrieking coming from his room, he was turning blue and i managed to pull it out and then he was hysterically crying. NO IDEA howwww he managed to get it all in his mouth. but now I never leave him with a pacifier on him unless I'm right there.

2 years and going strong They're fine. Yes it will be a habit to break at some point but at 5 weeks whatever it takes to get some sleep is what I say.

How scary!! Maybe you should move up to the larger size one.
Emma falls asleep with it and on some nights she wakes up looking for it. She can't seem to put it back in yet, soon I hope!!

Re: Are pacifiers okay for sleep?
it reduces the risk of SIDS since they don't let DC go into a very deep sleep. The act of sucking keeps them in a place where they will wake up if breathing stops.
we used them with both children. I don't know how we would have done it without them. and with the older one it was very easy to break, although I dreaded it - he apparantly did not.

John has been using them since he was like 5 weeks old. I have also read that it helps prevent SIDS too.

Re: Are pacifiers okay for sleep?
i would say they are fine although i posted last night about my DD's night addiction to them and how it is causing me a lot of sleepless nights! whenever she spits it out she cries and cries and i have to go running in to pop it in only to get up in another 1/2 hr to do it again! she's 3 months and swaddled so she can't do it herself. it's driving me nuts and now i want to get rid of them!

Re: Are pacifiers okay for sleep?
We've used them for both DC. Just make sure you don't use the tether in bed. It's a potential choking hazard, even though it's a very short cord.
