Are Panoramic Testing and Maternit21 the same thing?
At my 12 week I had a finger prick blood test. I didn't read the name on the form but when I asked the OB what it was they said to test for Downs and abnormalities. Are these two tests the same?
Regardless, fast forward 4 days later I get a call from my OB - Downs came back normal but Trisomy 13 and 14 show abnormal. She said not to freak out because it can be a false positive. I have an already scheduled appointment with a genetic counselor next Thursday (thanks to age and family history). Now it's going to kill me to wait a week.
Has anyone had any of these tests come up positive then everything be ok?

Haven't tested for this yet but my OB referred to the test as both Panoramic and Maternit21, so yes I think they are the same thing.

At 12 weeks you likely had the blood test that goes along with the NT scan, which is just a finger prick with 5 drops of blood. There are a whole host of companies/labs that run the next set of genetic screenings, which is likely what the genetic counselor will recommend as a next step. Those are full blood draws from your arm.
I'm sure everything is ok with your baby. Hold tight!

Re: Are Panoramic Testing and Maternit21 the same thing?
The finger prick isn't the Panorama / MaterniT-21. It's part of the screening for the NT exam. I don't think it has a name. I had the test done a couple of months ago and one doc at the practice called it MaterniT-21 and another called it "Panorama." To do the test, they needed a few vials of blood from my arm.
I think that "positive" on the NT test means a chance of an abnormality is 1/200 or greater. That's 0.5%. So, even with a "positive," your chance of having a chromosomal normal baby can be as high as 99.5%. Hang in there. Good luck.

Materniti21 and panorama test for the same genetic abnormalities they are newer (more accurate) versions of the first trimester screen for trisomy (the finger prick test--which may not be done by pricking the finger if you had blood drawn for other tests the sample may be spotted on the card using blood from the blood draw). All screening tests have the potential for false positives. The genetic counselor I saw when pregnant with DD advises her patients to only one screen the first trimester screen or the Materniti21/panarama panel. You do not gain anything by doing multiple screens for the same diseases- usually the next step would be a diagnostic test like CVS or amnio depending on how far along you are. Did your doctor tell you what the results of you test were specifically? They are usually reported as odds of something occurring like 1/xx.

Re: Are Panoramic Testing and Maternit21 the same thing?
You did the triple screen, which looks for specific blood levels. These levels correlate with increased risks of Edwards, Downs, etc. it is a finger stick.
Maternity/Panoramic are Both DNA snip analysis. They look for fetal DNA and compare it to maternal DNA. They find the differences & analyze them. It requires a vial of blood.
With my first pregnancy, I had a positive triple screen result for Trisomy 13/18 & did a follow up test with the same company. The result was super low odds. Baby was perfect.

I didn't get the exact results. She said she was sending them over to the counselor but I forgot to ask for her to send them to me. I'm trying not to google anything and freak out. My aunt's SIL is an OB nurse and she said that these tests drive people nuts all the time. She tested positive for Downs and her son is fine. I think it's a 1 in 10,000 chance from what my aunt told me. I'll see what the counselor says.
