You can't take over the counter cold medications but you ABSOLUTELY should take the right antibiotics if you have an infection. I had strep throat and was told that it can be very harmful if it goes untreated. I think you should go to your physician and see if you have an infection or just a cold. I can NOT imagine your OB thinks you shouldn't take an antibiotic if you have a bacterial infection.
