Are there a lot of illegal apts in Massapequa (areas south of Merrick esp)?
Does anyone know if Massapequa (south of Merrick areas) have a lot of illegal apts? Just curious and want to know as much as I can about areas we wish to buy a home in. I see on the MLS there are no legal two familie other than a few in the Plainedge district. So iis it mostly single families truly living in the houses or single families with illegal rentals?
Thanks!

When I was looking we went to a lot of open houses in the area and really didn't see any houses that had apartments in them.

There are lots of illegal apartments in both Massapequa and Massapequa Park. We lived in one of them for a few years.
ETA: However - there are also a lot of M/D possibilities as well that you just need to get the proper permits for. I think many houses that you see that say "Possible M/D" are the ones that are already an illegal apartment or have the potential to be one.

ITA! Great area and expensive. Some people cannot afford the homes without having a rental.
