Are there buses from Little Neck or Nassau County that go to Grand Central Station Area?

My husband works near Grand Central Station and we are considering buying a new house but the LIRR train line isn't the greatest. Is there another mass transit option that would get him to Grand Central instead of going through Penn so that he can save some time?

So here is the problem, that is only a solution in the morning. Those Hunters Point trains don't run late. The earliest train he could take from Grand Central would be 7pm and they have stopped by then. Any other ideas on how to get him from Sea Cliff to Grand Central and back?

He could take the LIRR from Little Neck to Woodside then get the 7 train to grand central.

QM3 has limited service, there are only three buses in the evening, the last one at 6:05.
It only runs along 6th Avenue, ideally takes one hour from first to last stop, but traffic has been horrible for a long time. I work near GC and take the bus to Bayside.

The Port Washinton branch of LIRR can be picked up at Woodside, take the 7 train to 61st street.

We had the same situation - a house in Sea Cliff that we LOVED but DH works near Grand Central and goes in early, leaves work late so the LIRR trains and MTA bus options were really limited. He felt like the only option would be driving every day and he didn't really want to do that so we bought a house on a more active LIRR line.

ETA: If I remember right, the problem with using train stations along the Port Washington branch is parking. I'm pretty sure that at most of those stations you have to have a resident sticker to park in the lots and you can't park on the streets that long every day. I think you'd have to drive to Little Neck each day to get to a station that doesn't require a resident sticker.

The other thing is with trying to get to Grand Central......if your DH is just trying to save time then going to Woodside or Hunterpoint won't really save you time. When I started working here I tried going through Penn and thakign the Hunterpoint or Woodside trains. It didn't save me any time it just saved me the crowds at Penn.

I take the train into Penn in the AM and home from Hunterpoint but do it that way because the schedules work for me that way not to save time.

Just as an FYI - if you end up moving to Little Neck and using the Pt Washington branch, using Hunterspoint is not an option since those trains come from Jamiaca & the Pt Wash trains do not go through Jamaica.

Re: Are there buses from Little Neck or Nassau County that go to Grand Central Station Area?

The easiest way from Little Neck would probably be to take a LIRR train that stops at Woodside and then take the 7 train to Grand Central. That is how I commute every day except I take the train at Manhasset. It's not bad at all. Going home, I take the Shuttle and the 1,2 or 3 to Penn. It sounds more annoying than it actually is!!

Re: Are there buses from Little Neck or Nassau County that go to Grand Central Station Area?

As I posted earlier, I live in Bayside, work near GC and commute by express bus.
If I do take the RR, then I just walk over to Penn, takes about 20 minutes depending upon how many tourists I have to dodge.
I find this easier than doing the 2-train subway thing.
No matter which way I commute (express bus, RR or local bus/subway), none really save me any time. They are all going to take between one hour and one and a half hours. The express bus is just the most direct for me.

What exactly is the issue, time or convenience ?

THANKS everyone! I think we are going to rent a spot at Manhasset and then just use that line. It really wouldn't be an issue if he didn't work 10 hour days.

Manhasset and little neck are the same line and it would be a shorter trio from little neck

It is not shorter from Little Neck because it would take him longer to travel by car to Little Neck in traffic than getting on the train in Manhasset.
