Are you an anxious person?

I never considered myself an anxious person and don't get stressed often that I'm surprised by the number of posts on the board about anxiety.

This isn't referring to regular worry regarding a situation (someone is very sick, work is hectic).

Re: Are you an anxious person?

I said more than once a day, but I wouldn't say it's intense anxiety. I think it's just my personality. I internalize it, though and people tend to see me as carefree and a non-worrier, when it couldn't be further from the truth.

Re: Are you an anxious person?

I have always been anxious by nature, it runs in my family. It has gotten worse over the last year and a half due to some events that have occurred. I was taking medication, but as soon as i found out i was pregnant, i stopped taking them, i still have bouts of anxiety, sometimes pretty bad, but i wont go back to medication until after the baby is born

Re: Are you an anxious person?

Stress and anxiety disorders are very differnet things.

Stress can be managed, a chemical imbalnace resulting in above normal anxiety cannot...

The number of people with anxiety disorders is staggering and its sad to see so many good people on this board suffer.

I have had an axiety disorder since I was a young child. Diagnosed and treated .......

Re: Are you an anxious person?

I too have a diagnosed anxiety issue.

I'm not currently on medication but I will be again at some point.

I resisted meds for a long time, thinking I could overcome it by myself, but I finally gave in and it was the most normal I had felt in years.

At one point in frequency do you think someone should think about medication? Realizing no one is a doctor here - just wondering for those not receiving help, who have considered it but haven't gotten there yet...what would bring someone to the point where they sought help?

Re: Are you an anxious person?

I have suffered from anxiety in the past but not that often, since having DD I get them more often now. I've been thinking about going on med's but I don't want to be dependent on them, and I feel just knowing I am on something will make my attacks worse.

I feel it has a lot to do with my hormones because my anxiety is worse around my period time.

My mom gets them, so I always call her when I'm feeling anxious and she usually can calm me down and make me feel better, just knowing someone else haves them and feel the same way as you can help a lot!

I'm very anxious. Every day I worry about something else and I have to talk myself out of it. Sometimes I wonder if this could affect my health later on down the line. It's very strange because my parents are so laid back, I don't know where I get this from.

Same here. I had anxiety for a little while in high school, it went away for a quite a few years, and then the last year or so, i started getting them again, and more often than i ever had. I finally started to analyze the situations that were the worst, figured out most of the triggers, and for the last few weeks, i've been able to basically talk myself out of the anxious feeling before it even started.

But, i don't consider my 'level of anxiety' (even at its worst) worthy of diagnosing or medicating.

Re: Are you an anxious person?

I'm very laid-back and am also surprised to see how many people are affected by stress and/or anxiety disorders. It's totally foreign to me - and anyone in my family.

One of my closest friends, always happy and cheerful, told me that her cat died and since then she has been on Prozac and plans to stay on it. I am just so amazed by that.....

Re: Are you an anxious person?

I am very tightly wound. I try to keep it in check and I think that most people just think that I have a lot of nervous energy. I do obsess about things that I have limited control over and that's just part of my anxiety.

I didn't really know it but I've suffered from it a long time. It happens to be one of the things that is common with a person that has a chronic disease.

For me the trigger was it started to manifest itself in a scary physical way.

I mean, my heart would always race a little, but it would start to beat REALLY fast and not slow down for hours and I couldn't catch my breath at all.

When I went to my regular doc, she couldn't find anything wrong, but asked if I was under stress.

I was planning my wedding at the time and making a major career change and I hadn't realized how much all of that was affecting me.

So she started me on Paxil.

I would say the biggest trigger is when you cannot control it anymore and it starts to affect how you live your life (not going out, having physical symptoms, being emotionally unable to deal, etc.)

Re: Are you an anxious person?

the last time I had TRUE anxiety (meaning not your run of the mill "freak out" session lol) was when we put a bid on a condo last year and after speaking with our mortgage broker found out what the mortgage would be w/the maintenance fees. I couldn't believe it was just a tiny bit less than buying a house. we withdrew our offer and haven't looked at any condos since.

Same here and it was just diagnosed recently. I always think, God, I went through so many years thinking I was crazy....it just became unmanageable and detrimental to my health. Now I am on meds and thankful for it, seriously.

When I couldn't get a grip on myself and would melt down at any given time for any reason. I was off the hook. I went on meds and got counseling and am so much better at handling my anxiety.

I still see a wonderful social worker. But I am no longer on meds.

Re: Are you an anxious person?

I voted Rarely.

I deal with stress and deadlines at work. And I stress about bills (when I'm paying them), but I think those are normal everyday stresses, and don't fit the poll.

Other than that, there's not that much for me to be anxious about. My life is status-quo and there's not much to worry about. I have a good balance in my life right now.

Re: Are you an anxious person?

I have always had panic attacks on and off my entire life. They come and go in waves. Last year, I had a bad one in May and my DR suggested I take xanax. Well, the xanax was great, however, I became dependant on it. I managed to get myself off the xanax in December - actually Christmas day was my first day xanax free - but it took me almost 3 months of cutting my dose to do that. I think the xanax made my anxiety worse. So then I went to a psycaitrist because I thought I was losing my mind - he wanted to put me on more meds. I decided not to take them and now I am over 1 month of no xanax and NO PANIC OR ANXIETY! I am sure it will come back at some point, but I learned my lesson with the meds.
There is no worse feeling than a panic attack, but they can't hurt you and I am going to just learn to deal with them.

But to answer your question - yes I am anxious.!
