Are you CPR/First Aid certified??

Just asking b/c I was supposed to start sitting occasionally for this family while they go on date nights...

After a ton of back and forth, I tell them that I was certified years ago in CPR. They said "oh we need someone who just was certified as it expires every year".

Good gried. I'm not downplaying the importance of CPR BUT c'mon. 2 sleeping kids...8 years old and 11, I consider myself excellent with kids and all families I ever sat for have loved me..

I guess this wasnt an issue years ago.

Now I am looking into the recertification but don't have $100 it will cost right now for both :(

Do you all have your certifications?? I feel kind of guilty I don't, especially since having a son. Chat Icon

Thats a bit ballsy expecting you to shell out 100 dollars. How bad do you need the job?

Yes, I got certified in Infant CPR right before DD was born. I already had AED certification through my job at school.

I do, several of us on here took a course a few months ago.

I think I might know where this is coming from. My nieces, all pre-teens/teenagers, took babysitting courses. They are the norm in their areas, all out of state, every babysitter in their area is trained in first aid, etc. and the families expect it. I think the local youth group or school gives it and I'm sure it foesn't cost $100.

I do agree though, $100, is a lot to lay out. When I took the course, it was $50.

I am sure you can find it cheaper.

Are you sure it's every year. I thought it was every 2-3 years.

Yes, I took the class through my local school district's 6-12 association, it was less than $50.

The procedure has changed quite a bit in the past couple of years. My brother was certified in 2005 for his job and had to take the class again this year since the procedure has changed so much.

I took that class through the Y when I was a teen. It was great, I really felt better prepared just in case there was an emergency.

Re: Are you CPR/First Aid certified??

I should prob clarify...they want me to have my CPR AND First Aid cert current..upon researching, it costs $40 for the CPR and $60 for First Aid. This is in virginia by the way..

I am not taking the job, I'm looking for another PT babysitting one...

Things have just changed a lot over the years...and I guess I have to update my skills!

Re: Are you CPR/First Aid certified??

I was certified for 16 years as I was a lifeguard. I just let the certification go last year. I want DH to take the class. He is certified in only child/adult, not infant. But we've gone over it at home. If I had somebody watching my child, I want them to be certified. You can definately find a cheaper class. Typically an entire lifeguarding course costs less than $100 and that includes First Aid and CPR for infant/child and adult.
