Are you getting a convertible crib?
I am really debating this. If you are why? If you aren't why not??
Thanks

Re: Are you getting a convertible crib?
We didn't get a convertible crib because we don't have room for a full sized bed in the baby's room. We went with a crib that can be a toddler bed only. Eventually we will get a twin sized bed for our child in the future.

Re: Are you getting a convertible crib?
i did for DS but we're not sure if we'll actually convert it. we didn't buy a furniture set, so we might buy a whole new set with a bed.
for #2 we will, mainly because i like the look of them and like that we have the option. the one i got for DS was pretty cheap from BRU
the only real benefit to a convertible over a drop down is that is has the option to convert. the height of the side is the same on a convertible when the drop down is dropped to the lowest level. and the prices are pretty similar. it's really your preference.

Re: Are you getting a convertible crib?
from what i read you need to buy additional converting equipment to do that...evenutally we plan on another kid..so i figured i'll be buying a bed at somepoint and using the same crib for the 2nd kid.
so im not sure if its even worth it.

Re: Are you getting a convertible crib?
we dont plan on it. we plan on having at least one more baby so we figured we would just get a reg. crib and use it for all the babies and when they get big enough for a bed well buy them something for a twin size bed.

Re: Are you getting a convertible crib?
We did, but only because the crib we liked happened to be convertible. Whether or not we actually convert it hasn't been decided. Ideally, it will be used as a crib for baby #2 instead.

Re: Are you getting a convertible crib?
I am... because it's the crib I liked most. Not at all for the convertible part. Did not even get the rails and really had no plans on using it as a bed until all of our babies are had! And we'll deal with it then. DH can build rails if they are unavailable in however many years it will be.

Re: Are you getting a convertible crib?
just a piece of advice, they're forgoing all dropside cribs in the very close future. we got the convertible mostly for the look. by the time we would convert the crib to a toddler bed, we probably will have had our 2nd child. the convertible cribs are just more stable and reliable

Re: Are you getting a convertible crib?
We have convertible beds for both DC. We didn't have to buy more furniture when DC outgrew the crib. We bought everything once, and we never need to buy another thing as long as DC live with us. I had to convert DD's crib around 9pm one night because she climbed out of the crib 3 times that evening... If we didn't have the convertible, I would have been in trouble....
The potential downside for some, is that it converts to a full-size bed, and not a twin after the daybed/toddler bed conversion.

Re: Are you getting a convertible crib?
Its actually kind of hard to find a crib that doesn't convert into something. My DS' only converts to a toddler bed and that was the only one in BRU that did.

We DID...
we loved the idea that the furniture will grow with the baby. I didn't have this growing up - but am happy that our child will

Re: Are you getting a convertible crib?
We did get a convertible crib.. which turned into a full size bed. She's been in it for about a year and a half now. Only problem is that we are using the crib for the new baby so we're converting it back to a crib and now DD has brand new full size mattress.
Im not sure what we're going to do yet, my parents bought the mattress for her so I dont want to not use it. But the room she's going in isnt really that big.. and I'd rather put a twin in it.
With that said.. lol.. Im happy we got the convertible crib because it was easy to switch but now Im not sure what's gonna happen!

We did -- just because I like the idea of all the furniture matching for awhile. This will at least get us to late elementary school.

Re: Are you getting a convertible crib?
We did b/c we plan on having the baby use the furniture until it at least goes to college. When we have another baby we will need furniture for the new baby too so we will just buy another convertible set and re-use the crib mattress.

Re: Are you getting a convertible crib?
We did and now that we are soon to buy a home, we realize that we may never actually convert it unless Abby's room will be big enough to allow us to do so. If it isn't, baby #2 (whenever it comes and no I am not PG) will get Abby's furniture and Abby will get new stuff. I do suggest to get the converter kits if you decide to get convertible cribs or they may become discontinued.

We did b/c it was the crib we liked the best. At the moment I don't have any plans to use it as a toddler bed.
