Are you getting a germ sanitizer to sterilize toys, pacifiers, etc?
I already registered for a bottle sterilizer (it is part of a bottle set I registered for).
Are you getting a sanitizer/sterilizer for toys, pacifiers, etc.?
I was specifically interested in getting the Germ Guardian Nursery Sanitizer. DH seems to think it is better not to sanitize everything so that the baby's immune system will be stronger. I don't think I agree with DH on this one.

I wouldn't santize everything. (in fact I'm against just like your DH). For things like pacificers and such, hot water & mild soap works for me. JMO

I agree w/ your DH - that thing, IMO is a waste of $$. And I'm a germaphobe -
But baby is going to put things in his mouth, drop his pacifier and think nothing of putting it right back in his mouth, eat strange things he finds on the floor before I can get to him - etc etc. - There's NO possible way to keep him in a sterile, germ free environment IMO .........

I'm just running everything through the dishwasher. Same thing.

I have a good friend who sterilized EVERYTHING and wouldn't let anyone touch her son without using a sterilizer.
Needless to say, the poor kid had the weakest immune system for the longest time.
I'd skip on the sanitizer - they are VERY strong and have an inordinate amount of alcohol on them. Simple water and soap is a much gentler way of cleaning thigns.

i agree completely. IMO babies need to be exposed to some germs to build up their immune systems.
it's impossible to sterilize everything that goes in their mouths. EVERYTHING goes in the mouth all the time. it's just par for the course.

Now I'm thinking we should get all new cleaning products. Our cleaning lady comes and cleans the house when we are both at work. She brings her own cleaning products.
Maybe we should buy specific cleaning products that are not toxic and instruct her to use our products?

I would definitely agree with your DH, He is a physician correct? Your baby needs to be exposed to germs in order for their immune system to develop or you will end up with a child that is chronically sick because his/her immune system is not use to the germs. Over "sanitizing" is why so many children these days are sick a lot more often and therfore prescribed anti-biotics more often which leads to strains of bacteria that are RESISTANT to our current antibiotics, VERY SCARY!!!

OMG, I mean this with much love, but take a step back and relax. You worry so much about this stuff, you're gonna drive yourself insane. You're baby will be ok. I would have your cleaning lady continue using what she has been. Your baby isn't even here yet. I think over-sterlizing your house, enviroment, etc is def. more harmful to your baby.

Yes, DH is a physician but he is a very specialized surgeon. I feel he is pretty useless when it comes to obgyn/ped stuff. Plus obgyn and pediatrics are the only two rotations he didn't honor in medical school. I always bust his chops on that.
