Are you putting money into a pretax flex spending account for 2009?
Do you know what baby expenses can be drawn from this account?

Absolutley! We did this last year too when going thru fertility treatments. We also put money into our dependent flex spend account for when I go back to work and she goes to day care.

Do you pay the daycare costs out of pocket and then get reimbursed?

We do it every year.
There are different types of flex spending accounts, you have to see which your employer offers. You can find a list of what the IRS will allow you to use flex spending for here

I don't think it's out of pocket. The way our Flex Spending works is we get a credit card for the amount we take out for Flex Spending and use that to pay for those items that are allowed.

Re: Are you putting money into a pretax flex spending account for 2009?
Yes. I wish I had enough forethought to max out my healthcare spending account this year when we ended up doing IVF Next year I think I chose $250 which should cover my hospital stay ($100) and other copays related to doctor visits.
I'm also doing the dependent care account, as I did this year. For us, we do have to spend the money first, then submit a receipt for reimbursement which gets wired directly to my checking account every month.

I don't think it's out of pocket. The way our Flex Spending works is we get a credit card for the amount we take out for Flex Spending and use that to pay for those items that are allowed. It depends on your plan administrator. At my last job we had the Credit Card, but at my current job it is out-of-pocket and I have to submit copies of bills/invoices that were paid. I get a lump sum at the end of the year.
We also have a FSA for myself, DH & the kids.

i didn't know i was pregnant when it was due to my payroll office!!! oh, well. . . . .
doctor's expenses (co-pays, RX, etc.) CHILD CARE
be careful with this though... you need to be sure you are actually going to spend the money that they take out because you don't get it back.

DH and I talked about doing it for child care but it's only up to 5K and you must provide receipts for reimbursement (e.g., from a day care center). This doesn't work if you use a private babysitter.

I did it for 2009 as I have used a FSA for the past 2 years. I use mine for prescriptions and have used it during my pregnancy for the prenatal vitamins. Co-pays are also allowed. There is a list of all qualifying purchases. Mine is in the form of a credit card.
