Are You Worried About Being Laid Off?

There's been several rounds of lay offs at my company and my DH just mentioned they've laid off 10% of his company...

This is getting both he and I worried about our job situaton.

Anyone else worried? :(

No, since I'm a SAHM (don't think DS will lay me off until he's a teen), but I had planned on going back to work next year, and I'm concerned that I'm not going to find much, or may need to look outside my field. Even then, I still may not find much.

I do worry about DH, though his job seems secure right now, we'll see what happens next year.

My company just aquired a major part of another company. I was just assigned to the transition team for this project that will take at least 2 years to complete. I think its safe to say I'm okay for now, but who knows what will happen in this crazy economy.

I was laid off two weeks ago. Yes, I am VERY worried right now.

I know both DH & I are safe. Right now my business is booming (military aircraft) & we have contracts all the way out til late 2010. My hold the position right under the President of the company, so I know I am not going anywhere until he does

DH is pretty secure but is definately getting hit with the economy. He is in the food industry but his territory is NYC. So even though things are not booming, the restaurants are still making money.

I'm not worried about me, but I am worried about DH. His company just laid off a bunch of people last Friday. My supervisor, OTH, is making me nuts about returning full time come January. (I've been P/T since returning from maternity leave in March).

I am not worried about DH but I am worried about me. On Tuesday, my firm laid off staff & associates for a total of over 100 people (firm wide). I have been told that there might be some more coming.

I know I'm not getting laid off now but I do worry about it for the very near future say within 3-4 months.

i am not really worried about my job, i am really the only employee in the office, i work for a small family business, me and 3 brothers.


i am a little worried about dh's job, they just recently had some layoff at his work, luckily he wasnt it. They said there will be NO other layoffs just that, but i feel a little better knowing that if they do, Dh still has 4 or 5 guys under him, and thats who the cut 1st, not the one making the most money

I was up until a few days ago, but until Patterson decides exactly what is and is not being cut and it's final - I'll be a little worried for DH and I since we're both muncipal employees, but me for the State and him for the Town.

More so for my DH - his firm is going through its second round of cuts. He is "safe" for now, but another round of cuts would make me nervous.

Myself - no - I work for the Fed. Gov't and while we're having major hiring freezes, the aren't laying anyone off, and in fact, right now we are being FLOODED with work.

Dh - he owns his own business, so he can't get fired. But, his business is an Israeli mutual fund, so obviously we've taken a hit in the last few months. Thankfully he has another job as an IT guy for a law firm he shares space with, and they are very stable right now because they are so well diversified.

Not worried about DH - he is safe - but I am worried about myself - it is a BIG source of stress for me

Me, nope..there will always be children to teach. DH, well he is actually benefitting from the poor economy. He has a auto parts business and with the poor economy, people are more likely fixing their older cars instead of going out and just buying new.

I think anytime you are in private industry- regardless of the economic state it's always in your mind.
My last job I was laid off during great economic times- it was just due to restructing in the company and my job being moved to another state.
The sad reality is in the private sector you never have real job security.

My hubby on the other hand is a cop with over 15 years- so he is safe thank God. I tell him all the time to thank his lucky stars that he has a job like that.

Nope. Both DH and I got laid off within 2 weeks of each other in 2005. We then started our own business...come to think of it, maybe I will fire DH

I'm not terribly worried. I know no job is safe but I work in the pharma industry and at this point my job is pretty safe.

My husband on the other hand owns his own construction company and everyday we worry about this.

The thought does cross my mind at times. I am not worried about DH.

i am not worried about DH, he is in the healthcare field and they need him; as for me, my clinic is closing in two weeks.

Nope-I work in Higher Ed-we just had our quarterly meeting and the owner said there would ne no lay offs. I am scheduled to be on maternity leave in about 3 weeks and then be back about 6-8 weeks later. They do have a hiring freeze right now though.

nope! My field is very secure..I am in social work and I work in a non-for-profit agency!!!..I do worry about my dh though..and my father recently got laid off from his job

I'm not worried about losing my job, I am worried about not getting a lot of the things that I need to help me teach next year, and increase in class size. I'm also worried about not getting any kind of raise next year (step or COL).
