ARRGGHHHH! DH is so FRUSTRATING!! VENT
So, my DH started working for the FDNY in July, it took him a while to get his forms together for his health insurance and finally, last month, I got on him, and we sent it in. I asked him which company he wanted, he said (I could have SWORN to it) that he wanted Cigna, so I wrote that down and sent the paperwork out.
He just called me screaming because apparently that is not the right thing and he wanted GHI and they are charging us for three people when we are only two (well, until May anyway). And then hung up on me because I made a mistake.
He called me back then and said we couldn't change it for a year and I said, well drop me then and pay for just yourself and the baby when he is born in May (I have insurance through my job anyway) and he says that is not possible.
Now, I guess I don't understand how exactly they can charge us for three people when we are only two and is it really not possible to change it for a year? I would think it could be changed, but that is just me.
ARGGGH. He is so PIZZZED at me, its annoying.
ETA: I called Cigna, they said they have us as two people and that isn't a family plan and that the FDNY must have done something wrong.
And thank to whoever said DH should have done this on his own. I totally agree
Hopefully DH can figure out who to talk to tonight.

They can't charge you for 3 people. I would call them myself.

I don't know much about being able to "drop" someone off your policy but the 1 year thing is right.
I have a friend in NYPD and my DH is in NCPD. They have a window where you can switch your insurance coverage. What a PITA this year when I wanted to change my Dental plan
I'd call about the 3rd person thou. You shouldn't be paying for that!
P.S He pays into his insurance? I thought there insurance was 100% covered. I could be wrong.

Yeah, I don't understand how they could do that.
With our insurance we can't change it for a year UNLESS someone got married or had a baby. I would call yourself and see what the situation is.

UGH!! so annoying! this is when my dad would tell your DH " if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself" LOL... your DH should have filled out the forms himself, if he was so worried about it all
i would call the insurance company directly and talk to them- they should not be charging you for 3 people already when the baby isn't here yet!

DH is also in the FDNY and there is a period where they can change it. You shouldn't be paying for the third person.
If you go with the HIP plan you don't have to pay for ANYTHING... Tell him to speak to the Senior man or the Captain in his house... It's a form that he should be able to get from Metrotech.

Every company I've worked for, and every time we changed insurance, there was a stipulation that life changes (birth, death, marriage, etc) would allow for a change in insurance besides the once a year thing. A company isn't going to let you not get health insurance for a baby just because you haven't hit the change window...

Are they charging you for 3 people or are they charging you for a family plan? Some insurance plans only have single and family coverage, while others offer an option for covering 2 people. If the plan has an option for the employee and spouse, you should only be paying that amount until the baby comes. Your rates will be adjusted after the birth. I'd call the company and investigate what's going on.

She hasn't had the baby yet, so she shouldn't be paying for it.
