its funny how someone posted this on NFR board and it became a "big thing" on how anti-children this society is...but maybe if parents realized that not EVERYONE thinks Johnnys behavior is cute and dont want to deal with it....but then again...those are the same that think their children are angels!!

I really don't look at this as being from an anti-child society. More like you said, a society that should have expectations on how children behave in certain places and in certain situations. I wonder if those same people think European societies are anti-child b/c they leave their kids in hotel rooms and outside restaurants while they eat? B/C most European societies have much better maternity leave and child care policies then we do, so I wouldn't say their anti-child!!

I am only posting on this board as the above, I believe, is in direct reference to what I posted in NFR. I posted about our intolerance in light of recent multiple threads on the subject.
I, in no way think my child is an angel and am quite considerate of others everywhere (whether I am with my child or not). I would never take my child to a place like Le Bernadin - because I believe it is inappropriate. I do however, believe that oftentimes children do not know how to behave in more adult settings because parents only expose their children to places like Applebees and the Olive Garden.
My DD, who is 2 has been going to restaurants since she was 2 weeks old. She has never once had a tantrum while out at a restaurant and behaves quite well. In the event she ever had a meltdown I would promptly remove her from the situation. If I never exposed her to these types of places she may never have known how to behave or what is expected of her in these situations.
What I am saying is there should be a medium somewhere and since this is all our planet we do have to learn to co-exist (even with the annoying people )
As far as leaving kids in hotels rooms while you go out to eat - we all know now where that can lead to

First class should be limited to children who are old enough to control their behavior. As long as the child is behaving I don't care if they are in first class. What I do mind, is people with body odor.
Airlines should hand out deodorant to people that don't bathe on a regular basis. To me, that is far more offensive and annoying than any kid kicking my seat!

I don't have a problem with kids in first class as long as they have their own seat. I don't think children should be held on parent's laps - I think that is unfair to the person sitting next to them that paid a lot extra for more room.

It shouldn't matter what type of restauant kids are brought to - they should be taught to behave the same in all restaurants. We were not taken to fancy expensive restaurants until we were older and only for special occasions but we were expected to behave where ever we went - that meant staying in our seat, not bothering other diners, not throwing food on the floor, trying our best not to spill our drinks and not throw tantrums.

I said no to children at the thought of misbehaved kids, bc sadly there are some parents who do not know how to control their kids or don't care to do so. Also there are some parents that do not care about others. For e.g. a lady took her newborn to a broadway show! The newborn started crying and she stood there rocking him so that he would stop...it was a good 10 mins. Now the parent has the control to step out or not have gone with the infant but sadly some adults have no common sense or courtsey. That it why I jumped the gun to say no kids.

I don't think children should be banned from first class. I used to fly rather frequently for work and often there were adult passengers who were far more annoying than children. While some kids can be annoying, so can some adults.
I've encountered plenty of kids in firth and business class and honestly have never had a problem. I've never seen an infant in first class, but I've heard plenty of infants in coach from first or business class.
I pretty much have my head phones on any time I am flying in first or business class, so it would really take quite a bit to annoy me anyway.
I personally wish airlines would require all infants and young children to have their own seat, though -- less for my own comfort and more for their own safety.

That never made any sense to me with unpredictable turbulence and the speeds required for take off & landing.

I have two kids, and I totally think they should have child-free options for at least during the week for the major cities where direct flights are plentiful.
I've travelled on business and have had to deal with other kids' tantrums and the like. Not cool on a 6 hour flight after a 4 day conference.
