Wow, I tend to believe the mother. I doubt she ever had a sonogram and like many women decades ago never knew she was pregnant with twins.
This story is similar to the "Memory Keeper's Daughter"

My ex husbands cousin was also seperated at birth from her identical twin. No one ever knew, and it was by chance that she found her when she was searching for her biological mother. Turns out it was some study they were doing in NYC on twins that were adopted blah blah blah. WOuld never happen today.
Anyway, 30 years later Elyse met her sister, and they are so much alike it is scarey, especially considering how differently they were raised.
