My LONG birth story.....

I woke up Friday, July 6 & felt a bit wet but thought it was only increased discharge.....so I didn't even wake DH up.

Then I was sitting down and when I got up there was a little gush of fluid. I was so excited and woke DH up. It was only 8 am & we decided to straighten up & wait until the dr.'s office opened at 9. We called the dr. & they had us come right in. She examined me & said it seems my water broke, although the stick didn't turn fully blue. I was only 2 cm & she said to take our time & go to the hospital & eat something on the way.

We checked into the hospital at 1pm, after DH ate a huge Checkers lunch & I had a big *** BR shake. I was in the "holding" area being examined & nothing happened, no contractions, etc. My dr. came in after her office hours & started the Cervidil around 7pm...the next am they started the Pitocin.

I started getting contractions immediately...increasing in intensity...they got to be about 2-3 minutes apart & 40-50 seconds. I was in a lot of pain & couldn't wait for the epidural, but I was still only 3 cm, they were trying to get me to wait until 4.

They finally got the anethesiologist in & I got the epi & was a new person. I was smiling & giddy & just loving life at this point. I wanted to kiss the guy! It truly was not bad at all, they stopped twice when I was having contractions.

Well, the rest of the day I only dilated until 6 cm & got stuck there....it was now 8pm on Sat. night & they were getting worried b/c my water broke so long before. My dr. said she really thinks it best to go the c-section route. At this point I lost it...I felt like I tried so hard & I truly didn't want to go the c-section route, but my hubby talked to me & I finally felt fine w/ the decision.

They prepared me & put demeroff(?) in w/ the epi & my hubby got into his scrubs & I remember just shaking as they wheeled me into the ER on the gurney. I was so nervous & they strapped down my hands & I remember feeling like I wasn't breathing & they assured me I was. I also felt claustophobic w/ the curtain so close to my face. I remember it being chilly & them saying what time it was & the next thing I knew they said, "its a girl" & they recorded the time as 9:26 PM. They showed me my baby girl & then took her to the side to clean her up...DH went to watch. It went so quickly.

I remember then they took my baby to the NICU & I lost it. All I heard was NICU & trouble transitioning......not the "routine" b/c of water rupturing past 24 hours. I was sure something was terribly wrong w/ my baby & I lost it. DH was trying to calm me. Turns out baby was fine, she just had a little trouble transitioning & w/ being in labor for more than 20 hours they didn't want to take any chances.

Turns out baby was fine & 3 days later I was home w/ my little princess. Anyone delivering at Southside has nothing at all to worry about, they spoil you & the nurses are all wonderful!!! Also anyone that has Dr. Polidoro, rest assured she is WONDERFUL as well....she made sure I knew what was going on every step of the way & explained things to me & was comforting & reassuring to both my husband & I. I highly recommend her!
