Aruba transportation
We're going to Aruba soon, and I'm debating renting a car. On our prior visits, we always rented since we needed it to get kitesurfing locations all over the island.
This time, Al's not planning on kiting, and its our first trip there with the kids.
Do we need a car? I remember there being buses, and I know there are taxis. I'm just wondering what makes more sense. Will we be spending as much on cabs each night to dinner? Flying Fishbone is on the agenda one night - I know thats a pricey cab ride, plus airport transportation to/from the hotel?
We're staying at La Cabana on Eagle Beach.
If you didn't rent a car, can you tell me how it worked out for you?

Re: Aruba transportation
When we go, we always stay at the highrise hotels. We take a cab to/from the airport. 25$ each way. Besides that, we use the bus to go into town. Its 1.25$ each way. Stops at the hotels, and runs every 30 minutes. Buses are clean and safe. Last time we stayed AI so we didnt have to worry about restaurants. Before, we mainly ate at hotels along the strip. There are also many restaurants across the street from the high rise hotels.

We didn't rent a car. We took cabs, they usually cost about $10 wherever we went. We had one of those big buses take us from the airport to our hotel and back, Depalm tours. Maybe you can contact them and see what they charge for that.

Re: Aruba transportation
I think that transportation from the hotel area is pretty good. We are renting a car when we go in October but we are renting a house that is near the airport and I wouldnt know the first way to explain how to get to the house to a cab driver!!
Have fun!!

Re: Aruba transportation
I would say your best bet is to take cabs. It can be scry driving there. A lot of the streets do not have street signs. My sister years later still hates driving there.
If you have anymore questions I can give you my sister's email address and maybe she can help you out

Re: Aruba transportation
the bus stop is right by La Cabana... I would def. do that for the times you're just going out to eat either downtown or to the high-rise area.
We always get a cab to get from the airport to La Cabana or other timeshare, then take the bus. Last time we went we rented a car for just 3 days out of the 2 weeks and in that time planned all our other side of the island activities- Baby Beach, lighthouse, dinner at MJ's etc

Re: Aruba transportation
Cabbing it in Aruba is great! The fares are set by the government and the island is so small you'll have all the fares down pat after a couple days!!
