Aruba w/ children - things to do, restaurants?
We are going to Aruba this Spring with our kids, 5yo and 1.5yo. Has anyone gone with small children before and what you recommend for things to do? (Besides beach and pool of course!)
I know there is a Butterfly farm that we will definitely hit up since my 5yo loves butterflies. She really wants to see dolphins but my searches have come up fruitless for dolphin experiences.
Restaurants.. We have a few on property but is there anything else that we should try that is kid-friendly?
Also, how did you get around? We are a group of 6 so I'm not sure if taxis would be feasible, or buses. Is parking a problem if we rent a car?

Depends on where you're staying. If you're staying where all the high rises are then everything you need is walking distance. We're going this weekend! We have a timeshare at the Marriott. Bringing my 2.5 yr old and 7 month old. This will be my 5th time with DH and his family . We don't really plan on going out to dinners too much and just planning on staying out longer on the beach. Then DH and I will order in or something after we put the kids to sleep. Maybe wine and food on the balcony. We've pretty much been to all the restaurants and the nights my IL's watch them we'll go out.
THere's a really good pizza placecalled Casa Tua. I looked it up and see The Buccaneer Restaurant is good for families. Iguana Joe's Hard Rock El Gaucho's MooMba - this is fun and outside

Thanks Erica! I'm marking those restaurants down. I think my daughter will love the Buccaneer for all the aquariums!
We are staying at La Cabana on Eagle Beach. Is that near the high rises?
We are going down with my parents as well, so there'll be a couple nights that DH and I can steal away by ourselves. Where are the good spots for nightlife?
Have fun! Hopefully you'll see this when you get back!

DH and I are owners at LaCabana...we spent our honeymoon there.
It's very family friendly but on Eagle Beach- not by the highrises or near most restaurants which are in town or by the high rise hotels. It's easy to catch a bus to go either way and it's only about a 10 min drive either directions.
Only caution is I know they are doing extensive renovations around the resort right now- I know only because they keep charging us more and more $$ to cover costs
Hopefully it won't impact your vacation too much.

Thanks for your response! We're Aruba virgins so this helps! I think it might be easier to rent a car. I need to get our schedule down pat and then we'll decide.
My parents belong to BlueGreen and used points for our rooms. From what I read on TripAdvisor, they are done with the rooms and working on some exterior portions and the casino. It sounds like the rooms are pretty nice so hopefully your money is money well spent!

From pics we have seen, the rooms have been very nicely updated! I can't wait to go back- we havent been since 2007 b/c of having DD and now being PG.
We just got notice that they will be working on parking lots and other outside areas.
I remember the pool being great- us big kids loved the slide. And it's literally a walk across a 2 way street to the beach. Eagle beach is calm and quiet- beautiful sunset views.
If you get a car- def. take a trip to Baby Beach for the kiddies. I'm not a ocean fan myself but you can literally walk out about 20 feet into the water and just be at knee level. perfect for little ones!

There is not a whole lot of excursions to do with little kids, I would plan on beach, pool and butterfly farm. RTV's and jeeps on the undeveloped part of the island is not something you probably want to do with them!
I honestly think its probably a waste of money to rent a car. Cabs rides to and from dinner are not expensive and will be cheaper than a car rental. There are vans that can accommodate a party of 6 easily. Or you can take 2 cabs if necessary... still less $ than a rental.
my parent's have timeshare at the marriott as well so we go every year...
