As if I dont feel bad enough.....

I started back at work 3 weeks ago. I quit my job in the city and now work much closer to home 2-3 days per week. I pretty much cried the first 2 weeks straight. This week I was a little better, not happy about it but I do like the job and life is what it is. I am coping....But not happy, of corse owuld much rather be at home everyday with my daugher...but thats not reality

Then today I met a new co worker, lady was much older than me. Came up that I have a 3 month at home and let me tell you....she ripped into me on why would I leave a 3 month and come to work...she kept saying why am I here?? and over and over again said I shouldnt leave a 3 month old....and on and on...

I felt sooo horrible after that.

How could someone be so insensitive???

She made me feel like I was such a bad mother.

To top it off she wanted to know why I took a job also that I am overqualified for (I have my masters and this job just required my bachelors) . I tired to explain that I want a non stress job right now as a new mom...and on and on.

Just surprised at people!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Sounds to me like someone (ahem) may have applied to your job and was REJECTED!

Not sure what chip is on her shoulder but not only is she wrong...she's out of line. Chat Icon Overqualified candidates are not exactly people with higher education...it's a combination of eduation and experience...clearly the company was very happy to offer you the position and saw a nice fit.

The comment about returning to work is just too awful...clearly it was a dig from a nasty person trying to upset you. I am so sorry!

That is HORRIBLE!! I am so sorry. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon While I was pregnant I had a coworker say to me that I shouldn't put my child in daycare (which I have to do.) She told me that there is no replacement for taking care of the child myself and I couldn't miss all his milestones. As I stared at her designer clothing, jewelry and accessories and as she drove off in her BMW, all I could think was that some people have NO CLUE. Just remember that you are doing the best thing for your family and your DC is in good hands. I hope you feel better!

I agree. She was grilling me on the position and wanted to know how I found out about it. It was strange. Truthfully everyone else has been soo nice and warm and welcomed me in with my experience.

That would not have even bothered me half as much but the comment about working with a 3month old at home made me sick. I even was saying that my mom watches her and she loves her..Then felt why am i explaining myself to this stranger....it doent matter what I do...its not her business.

But bc it is a sensitive subject it made me so sad even more.

Sounds like she wants your job!
I would not even respond to someone like this. I would say to her "This is a personal decision and honestly, none of your business" if she keeps harassing you go to HR.
Do not say you want a low or no stress job. That could sound bad if overheard by a superior. Just say that you are happy with this decision and looking forward to contributing to the company.
Also, who is watching your child has nothing to do with her or your job.
Don't get into it with her.

Geez...she's making it sound like you left her unsupervised!
Like a pp mentioned...I would have asked her if she wanted to pay my bills..than I'd be happy to stay home.

Next time she brings it up..put the old bat in her place. Let her know she's out of line. Try not to let her get to you. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Agree with you. I think I miswrote wht I said. I actually did say something like there wasn't any part time jobs available that was masterss required so I wanted to work here and figured this was a good way to start.
