As if these are "big problems" but....
can you ladies give me your advice?
I want to discuss TTC w/ DH but im a bit unsure of when we should start to TTC.
We are going to Paris is Feb and i thought it would be AWESOME to start there. Now lets say i DO get PG then or w/in the months following, that means the earliest birth would be around Nov. Basically i dont love this idea bc i really dont wanna work much of the 08-09 school yr
BUT...........
If we start Dec, then I MIGHT be PG for Paris and then im not sure i want that.
What would you do?

Re: As if these are "big problems" but....
I think many of the women on this board know the saying, "make plans and G-D will laugh" is all too true. Honestly, if you're ready to start TTCing, I would. It could happen immediately, it could take a year, or more. If it does happen right away and your pg for Paris - I think that's awesome. It will be like an early baby-moon.
Obviously, no one can really tell you what to do in this situation - it's a personal choice. BUT, I do highly recommend letting go of the calculating the what-ifs and be a little sensitive (I know you don't mean it insensitively) about it. Some of us have been trying for a LONG time - and I hope it's not that way for you, but if it does take a little time, I guarantee you you won't care if you're pg in Paris, or starting a school year, or what the circumstances are, you'll just be thrilled to be pg.
Good luck

Re: As if these are "big problems" but....
I was trying to "plan" around the 08-09 school year b/c I wanted to try and get a library position for then...however 4 months later it seems ttc does not go by plans. I was worried about interviewing in March-July and being pregnant...a March due date has passed and at this point I feel like it's not worth being stressed out about. Things like this happen in time. Sorry prob not the advice you are looking for.

Re: As if these are "big problems" but....
When DH & I started TTC, we wanted to plan it all out. We found out quite quickly that the "plans" just don't seem to hold true. Not saying that some other girls "plans" didn't work out. I would just go with the flow & start TTC whenever you are ready. Don't base it on when you "want" to give birth. Hopefully your stay will not be long!

Unfortunately... I have to agree.
Our first time trying we got pregnant.... and then I miscarried - something I knew happened, but didn't think would happen to me.... Who thinks of things like that, right?
My advice is the same as the ladies - you can try to plan but it may not work out.... Now - I don't care when I get pregnant or when I give birth as long as I have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.

Re: As if these are "big problems" but....
Hey Michele! It's funny b/c DH and I haven been talking about the same thing. I know we can't really "plan it" but we always try to figure out if we got pregnant this month, we'd be due this month...
We are planning a trip for Feb also and I decided that I wouldn't mind being preg for it but not TOO far along since we might do a cruise. We are prob going to start trying in the fall... (can't believe I wrote that).

Re: As if these are "big problems" but....
I agree with everyone else about the planning part of it, but want to add this little story.
Before we got PG the last thing I would have wished for was a December baby b/c my brother was born in December and I always thought he got the short end of the stick with his b-day being so close to Christmas.
Well, we started TTC and I considered skipping March to avoid the December baby, but we had difficulties before we even reached March. Went to the GYN, & the RE for all the female tests, DH had a SA and we started the whole temping, charting, OPKs etc. Guess what? I'm having a December baby and couldn't be more thrilled.
Don't waste time trying to plan. Take life as it comes and enjoy every single moment!!

Re: As if these are "big problems" but....
Plans are just that - plans. I had many and none of them worked. If you are both ready to TTC, then start. If you are not ready then don't start. The child will be a blessing regardless.

Re: As if these are "big problems" but....
I don't know if you can totally plan for it, but you can start trying around a time you think you may want it to happen. Only your higher power can determine that.
We tried planning for a honeymoon baby, because I wanted to give birth in the Summer. WELL..BOY do I regret THAT! We didn't get the honeymoon baby..but we got PG in November and I'm due in AUGUST!!! I thought it would be "cute" because of the Summer attire and having parties in the Summer. I was wrong. Maybe it's just me, but being pregnant in the Summer is not all that fun. Swollen feet, feeling huge in a bathing suit, hot flashes.. etc, etc, etc. If we decide to have another, I'll hold off on Sept, Oct and November LOL!
I don't think anyone can plan it..it will happen when you least expecit.
Good Luck to you though..all the best!!!

Re: As if these are "big problems" but....
I hope you are one of the lucky that gets pg on the first try but what I have realized is that even the best plans don't always work out when TTC. Try not to put pressure on yourself to time getting pg around other things. Start whenever you feel ready regardless of other factors.

What a great thread... I really needed to hear stuff like this. I'm a planner - and I realize you can't plan things like this
