As you get near the "finish line"
I am so nervous about labor and delivery it's beyond crazy. It's all I can think about at times. I'm going to be induced next week and I can just see myself panicking all the way to the hospital. Any coping advice? I HATE hospitals. The epidural is scaring the heck out of me too, but I know it'll be better than pain. I feel so conflicted...

I try not to think about it. I am staying as relaxed about it as possible and I am just going to deal with it one contraction at a time.

Re: As you get near the "finish line"
if you're really nervous, why not hire a doula? they will never leave your side, they'll help your labor progress, and they'll keep you calm and emotionally support you......
when they're involved, there are also lower odds that a woman elects to have an epidural

Not sure where you are delivering at, but bring music with you. IPOD's work wonders. You can bring your headphones and listen to relaxing music to totally help you stay calm. Calm is the key word in any labor. Each time you feel overwhelmed, lightly rub your baby (belly) and think how much closer you are getting to seeing your child.

Re: As you get near the "finish line"
I was very nervous with my first. I totally freaked out on my dh and my mother plenty of times. The epidural was wonderful and I don't remember ANY pain at all.
Just remember....it's not pain that lasts forever. It goes away and there's always DRUGS!!!

Re: As you get near the "finish line"
just know it is going to be ok!! it really is. you might be really surprised and have a really wonderful smooth L/D so it does no good to worry. you are going to have a lot of competent and knowledgeable people around you who know what they are doing. also, i thought the epidural was not that bad at all-that was a surprise for me!

Re: As you get near the "finish line"
From what I remember, when the meds start to go through the epidural line, it feels cold. It is not at all uncomfortable, it is just a weird feeling

Re: As you get near the "finish line"
Knowing that I am having a c-section again and knowing my recovery and all that yup, starting to panic and worry. I definitely don't feel as prepared for this one as I did for my daughter. Definitely worried and nervous.

Re: As you get near the "finish line"
don't be scared of the epidural! really, i was literally phobic about anesthesia and planned a natural childbirth. circumstances during the birth made me change my mind and the epidural was fine. didn't hurt one bit!

i can't agree with this more. we loved our doula. she was so calming and had lots of pain relief and relaxation techniques for the many hours before i had the epidural. even though we did not end up having a drug-free birth, the doula was still marvelous.

Re: As you get near the "finish line"
i think it is normal to be scared!!! i had a test run to the hospital yesterday, i got the bloody show and i THOUGHT i broke my water in the process so i called the doc and she told me to head to the hospital...and i must say i kept my cool (maybe cause i didn't have contractions) we'll see how the real deal goes!!
