I wouldn't worry. I didn't even get one until 20 weeks. You can ask, but sometimes it's an insurance issue. They could be limited to how many they are allowed to do.

Re: Asking for an additional sonogram or ultrasound?
Sonos are done at long intervals. Although I had a lot of sonos, they were medically necessary as I was a high-risk PG. Normally I would have only gotten 3. (12w, 20w & 32w)

Re: Asking for an additional sonogram or ultrasound?
Sonograms are not usually given at every visit. They are given usually at the first visit to see the heartbeat and then at around 12 weeks for the ultrascreen. The next one is around 20 weeks for the Level II. There may be a few after that to do a growth sonogram or at the end for a biophysical profile. It was even in my pregnancy paperwork not to ask the doctor about having more.
Doesn't hurt to ask though!!

Re: Asking for an additional sonogram or ultrasound?
I just had my first sono at 12 weeks and my next will be at 18 weeks. If all is good, they won't give me any more than that.. While I'd love to have more just to see my baby, I won't ask for one that isn't medically necessary because I don't want to have to pay out-of-pocket for it.

some people only get 2 ultrasounds their entire pregnancy. It depends on your insurance

same here!! most doctors follow a set schedule and won't deviate it unless there is an issue. I know it's tough in the beginning, but hang in there!!

Re: Asking for an additional sonogram or ultrasound?
i had a couple more than usual - because i was bleeding at the beginning - and still had a very hard time with our insurance because of it --- normally it would have been 8 weeks, 12 weeks and 20 weeks.... which insurance covered - since i was bleeding early on and had two extra we now have to get precertification from our drs office and insurance - before i got the reg ones that are required - level 2 and ultracreen....
so be careful --- some insurance companies limit at 3 and you have to get permission/approval for more or pay out of pocket
something i finid ridiculous since why would a dr dop something that isnt a medical necesity
