sonogram/ultrasound frequency question
For those of you who have maintained the same dr/practice throughout your pregnancy, when/how often do you have sonograms/ultrasounds? [I changed drs. and some tests and procedures have been "delayed" a little]
I'm curious because I only had the Level II and while I'm fine with that [I would've opted out of it if DH hadnt' wanted to see it so bad], DH seemed kind of bummed that we wouldn't have another...at least, that's what I told him.

Re: sonogram/ultrasound frequency question
Normal is to check for a sac (some dr's do this others don't), ultrascreen, Level II, growth scan.
So normally 3-4 if you have no complications.
Etd to add I have had a lot more but when I first saw my dr he indicated that was the normal progression

My doctor does one at 7 weeks, the ultrascreen before 14 weeks, and the level II/anatomy scan before 20 weeks.
She does not do growth sonos unless you are measuring big or small. I am measuring small, so I have to have one.
I think tho, that usually 2 or 3 is "normal"

Re: sonogram/ultrasound frequency question
We had one at 8 wks, then the ultrascreen at 12 wks & the Level II at 20 wks & then the growth sono later on. I think that is sort of the norm.

Re: sonogram/ultrasound frequency question
Every pregnant Mommy is different..and every Dr does different things..
Most Drs do an early ultrasound to make sure the pregnancy is viable...and then whatever course of action they take from there determines the amount of sonograms..
I have had a ton..BUT that's b/c I have have a history of...preterm labor, multiple births, my dates are always off, and UGH Down Syndrome...At this point of my pregnancy I have lost count of how many sonos Ive had..My neighbor across the street has only had her Level II..

Ditto.
High risk multiple pregnancy I get a quick sono just to check heartbeats every visit. I've had 5 growth sonos alone in the 3rd trimester.

I think this is how my doc works. I have had one at 7 weeks, will have the ultrascreen at 12 1/2 weeks, the Level II at 20 weeks and one later at 34 I think??

Re: sonogram/ultrasound frequency question
So far, 4 weeks, 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 12 weeks (b/c I had bleeding), 13 weeks for the ultrascreen, and then I think every 4 weeks if all is OK.

Re: sonogram/ultrasound frequency question
Besides the 3D/4D sono that I paid for with another Dr., my Dr. that I see regularly has not given me a sono since the Level II. I have an appt. this week and I am expecting that he will bring up a growth sono (I'll be 33 weeks), but I could be wrong....

Re: sonogram/ultrasound frequency question
with a normal preg, my dr only does the week 20 U/S, and will only do a growth sono later on if ur measuring to big or small, i had sonos at 7 weeks and 9 weeks b/c of spotting/low progesterine so she wanted to make sure everything was OK

Re: sonogram/ultrasound frequency question
I had one at 6 weeks, ultrascreen at 12 weeks, one at 16 weeks (to check my cervix, but we also saw the baby), 19 weeks (level II) and 24 weeks (to check cervix, but we also saw the baby)...that is it so far. We've been very lucky in being able to see the baby each time I get my cervix checked...

Re: sonogram/ultrasound frequency question
So far I have had an internal u/s at 8 1/2 weeks, nuchal tube external u/s at 12 weeks, and the big external u/s at 20 weeks. I am not sure if I will have any more before I am to deliver in August. I love seeing the baby so I would not mind if they scheduled any additional u/s.

Re: sonogram/ultrasound frequency question
The amount can also depend on your insurance. Some do not allow more than one, others just a few and some unlimited.
