Asking information for a friend
My friend is going through some inftertility issues and she just found out that her insurance doesn’t cover IUI. If the NYS grant is still available, could she use that towards an IUI? If your insurance didn’t cover IUI (mine covered all of them) how did you cover the costs of the procedure and meds? Right now she is on Clomid and trying naturally. Her gyn will increase the Clomid dosage again this month but she said after that she should start thinking of doing an IUI.

I'm going to assume she may work for a Catholic hospital? Otherwise to my knowledge NYS law is that IUI has to be covered. I think it may be called the womens health act.

She works for a law firm and her DH is construction and in a Union. I’ve already asked her to investigate further regarding his insurance (she’s covered under his plan). But I didn’t know it was a NYS Law for insurance companies to cover IUIs. Would you happen to know where I could find the information?

I don't work for a Catholic Hospital but my insurance does not cover fertility treatments or meds. I looked at the link provided. How is this possible??? I'm so confused!

If you look carefully at the link, it doesn't say that IUI is required to be covered. Diagnostic procedures, yes, but not treatment that is solely for the purpose of trying to conceive, such as an IUI. It s*cks but I don't think IUI's have to be covered. My insurance used to cover it but now it doesn't so we will be paying out of pocket in the future.
To the OP, I would tell your friend to speak with her doctor's office and explain that she doesn't have IUI coverage, and ask if they provide some sort of discount or financial assistance to someone in her position.

Re: Asking information for a friend
also, I did my IUIs through my OBGYN's office and they were billed as a office procedure and not as an IUI so they were covered under my regular insurance. I have fertilty coverage but its an allowance and because the dr billed it as a office procedure it did not come out of the allowance.
