Asking for a friend MMR (Older child)
My friends son is 5 years old....
He had a very bad reaction to the combined MMR at his 15 month appointment...
He is now 5 years old and needs to have the booster to start kindergarten. Her current ped will not split the shot. She is scared to give it to him b/c he had such a horrible reaction the first time...
Does anyone know of a ped that offers the split shot?
TIA...

She said she looked and Merck does make it...
It was the first thing that I said to her...
The insurance company wont cover it and she is willing to pay out of pocket for it....
The ped thinks she's being ridiculous for wanting it split...

I found a place here in TX who had it split but you had to buy three doses of EACH - uninsured.
They thought I was crazy too. I did end up getting the combo shot, but seriously why is it crazy to ask for it to be split at ALL is completely beyond me. I mean I want control over the doses she gets and number of drugs in her system. I WANT it split up. It won't HURT her to have 3 shots instead of why, why CAN'T we have 3?

Your friend can have titers done to see if he has immunity, then he does not need another shot at this point.

That's exactly what I would do...its just a simple blood test to see if he has immunity and if he does then there is no need to have the second.

Merck stopped making the monovalent vaccines last year, maybe even shortly before than. They were supposed to start making them again this year but they have not yet. I called.
I would have them to a titer test. if he is immune no need to get a second shot right now.
